Our mechanic was very frustrated, but finally found that the inner pad on one of the calipers had collapsed inside the caliper. Apparently, they usually fall clear out if they fail. Just bought a 2001 Century Custom today for $11,999; 27,000 miles; rental return. Beautiful automobile.
