GENEVA — Frank Rinderknecht, the playful Swiss entrepreneur whose Rinspeed shop has created dozens of delightful — and sometimes ridiculous — concepts for the annual Geneva auto show, has created a surprisingly simple "back to the roots" prototype dubbed BamBoo for the 2011 event.
Rinderknecht teases that the canvas-top four-seat BamBoo concept "resembles a grown-up golf cart" that is meant to evoke memories of the '70s, St. Tropez and Brigitte Bardot.
So far, Rinspeed is releasing few details on the vehicle, other than to note that it will feature electric drive (including a battery-powered foldable scooter), plus "many interior components are made from bamboo fibers."
With typical Swiss understatement, Rinderknecht observes: "Anyone not blinded by horsepower orgies, chrome tinsel and top-speed frenzy should take a closer look."
