IRVINE, California — The Hyundai HCD-14 concept, which is said to preview the design of the next-generation Hyundai Genesis, was teased on Monday ahead of its debut at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

"The HCD-14 concept will give the automotive world a glimpse into future Hyundai premium vehicle design, advanced 3-D gesture-based technology controls, and spirited driving dynamics," said Hyundai Motor America in a statement.

The low-slung concept features a long hood, angular headlights and narrower side windows than the 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The narrow side windows are a popular design cue that is said to increase the feeling of security for passengers. The concept also features oversized wheels and tires, along with a striking row of rear taillights. A dramatic character line sweeps across the sides of the concept.

No word yet on powertrain specifications or launch date for the production version of the concept.

The Hyundai Genesis faces increasing competition from such rivals as the Chrysler 300, Lexus GS and Lincoln MKS.

The Hyundai HCD-14 concept will be unveiled on January 14.

Edmunds says: The Hyundai HCD-14 concept will be one of a dozen key unveilings at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
