DETROIT — The 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250, the quad coupe production version of the automaker's Concept Style Coupe, aims to be one of the style leaders at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, which has frameless doors and resembles the CLS in miniature, goes on sale in the U.S. in the fall. Such critical details as pricing and fuel economy estimates were not announced.

So important is the CLA250 that it gets two debuts: one here and another at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin January 15-18.

The Concept Style Coupe debuted at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show and parent Daimler describes the reaction to the concept as "overwhelming."

"The most frequent comment by far was 'please put this car into series production,'" said Dieter Zetsche, chairman of the board of management for Daimler AG, in a statement.

In an uncharacteristic phrase for the usually conservative German automaker, Mercedes-Benz calls the CLA250 a "style rebel." Unusual details include a "flame effect" for the optional daytime running lights.

The five-passenger coupe is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder engine that delivers 208 horsepower. It is linked to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. An Eco stop-start function to conserve fuel is standard.

Collision Prevention Assist is a standard feature, along with mbrace2, which allows smartphones to be fully integrated into the vehicle's display and operating system.

The CLA250 rides on a 106.3-inch wheelbase and is 182.3 inches in overall length.

All-wheel-drive and a panorama sunroof are optional.

Edmunds says: The four-door coupe trend continues, although this time it's on a much smaller scale. Still looks good, though.
