2009 Saturn Aura
I replaced a 2005 Pontiac G6 GT that I loved and ran 320k miles with it's much stripped down sister, a 2009 Saturn Aura XE. It retains the great parts of this sedan platform - it's driving dynamics and space. I don't miss the V6 so much, because the 2.4L they used is a fantastic engine. The six speed transmission is also fantastic. It's punchy, and the fuel economy is just great, I get … no less than 400 miles from a tank. This iteration is also an extremely reliable car. I am about to pass 150k miles on a decade+ old car, and there really hasn't been problems yet at all. I've had to replace a rim I bent, a mirror I broke off and a front speaker I blew. There was an issue with the headlamp wire that only cost $40 to repair. There was a problem with the brake pedal position sensor that would have been $450 to replace the brake pedal assembly, but even at 10 years old, General Motors had a bulletin that in rare cases it still fails after work done under a recall and they had the dealer fix it for only $70. I love the rear LED taillamps, pretty rare for a 2009. It liked to burn out low beam bulbs and they aren't fun to change, but I upgraded them to LED and that's that. I'm on my third set of brakes, third set of tires, and no sign of suspension parts wearing out let, even with being a spirited driver. The driver door power lock doesn't work all the time now, might just need some grease. My pain point with it is it's steering feel at higher highway speeds. I wish it had a little more resistance. I'd still rather have electric steering and not hydraulic. It's ABS/TCS is very well done and the car does well in the winter. It's a safe, reliable economic and inexpensive product from GM. I wish they still made these.
