2001 Lexus RX 300
I bought this amazing AWD Lexus back in 2017 with 100,000 miles on it. It was in excellent condition inside and out, had all service records since new and had every dealer-recommended service done to it over the years. Most of the miles were highway, so the engine and drive train are still in excellent condition. Other than continuing the routine service, I've spent very little on it. … I did have the front brakes completely redone - calipers, pads and rotors, and have just installed a new battery. I used only full synthetic oil and premium filters, and now that we drive it less than 5000 miles per year, I change the oil and filter every six months. I've been told that's not necessary, but this car is in primo condition and its a small price for the peace of mind I get from doing it. It has 160,000 miles on it now; another 20K and I'm looking at a timing belt replacement. I just put on a new set of Michelin premium all-weather tires and this thing goes through a foot of snow, up and down steep loose gravel driveways, whatever I ask of it. The AWD system is amazing! The car drives so well that I can't imagine how it could have been better when it was new. The window sticker in the Owners Manual says it cost $41,000 new. I paid $5000 for it and it's still worth that now. A good investment, for sure.
2024 Update: We've owned this car for 7 years now and it's STILL the best car I have ever owned. And I could still sell it for what I paid for it. No new repairs to report, just routine maintenance. Still runs and drives great. The front suspension is starting to show some wear with some thumping of (most likely) ball joints. Very light and it takes a certain roughness of the road to get that noise. The leather is starting to show surface cracks on the driver's seat, but other wise it's till fine. I do keep it maintained with occasional applications of leather conditioner. No dents, no scratches. 166K miles now; still have that timing belt decision to make -- to spend nearly $2000 on this car or to replace it with a fresher one . . .
