2023 Lexus NX 450h+
First I'll admit that I'm biased. I'd wanted a RAV4 Prime for literally years, but since I don't live in one of the "green" states, was unable to get one. Then Lexus announced the NX450h+, and after some work, I was able to purchase one from California.
I am VERY happy with my vehicle; the electric-only range is more than adequate for daily commutes, and I feel the 37 miles of EV range … that Lexus claims is conservative; if you're driving 70+ MPH on the highway, then I get exactly 36 miles on EV only (there's a small town exactly that far away and back, and I'll often make a quick trip for steaks there). However, in town, when using regenerative braking, I'll get over 40. Basically, I plug in overnight a couple of times a week, and nearly all of my driving is electric only as a result. Also, this is a regular plug-in; I did not have to spend $300-plus for an electrician to install a 220v outlet. The Lexus app tells me how far along the charge cycle is, whether doors are locked, etc, and can remotely start the vehicle if it's cold out. The 14-inch screen for non-car apps is wonderful, responsive, clear, and slanted towards the driver so that it's easy to see and reach. The heads-up display is configurable, and while I agree with some that the controls are wonky to start with, computer nerds will rejoice as it's entirely configurable. I've set mine up with about 4 functions that I use all the time (phone calls, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and navigation). There are more, but since I don't use them often, I'm comfortable having to go through a screen or two to bring them up. Speaking of adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist, Lexus' version works WAY better than my last vehicle; it will actually work when in stop-and-go traffic, keeping my blood pressure down.
Overall fit and finish is pure Lexus, meaning very well done. I've not owned a Lexus before, but they are well put together.
The vehicle is VERY comfortable on long trips as the seats are relaxing but "hug" you just enough, IMO. Gas mileage on a nearly 2,000 mile trip (basically just a hybrid since I didn't plug in overnight) was still decent at 35-37 MPG, and that was with 3 adults, their luggage, and a dog the size of a small horse. We all got to our destination feeling relaxed (except for the dog; he wanted to drive and constantly was literally breathing down my neck).
Finally, there's the Lexus/Toyota quality. Consistently at the top of the quality charts, I feel very confident that my vehicle will stand the test of time. That's something to consider when purchasing a vehicle with essentially two different drivetrains, as well as all the do-dad driver assistant features that are essentially software programs and mechanical parts that could go wrong, and would likely be costly to fix. I've had no issues with mine.
Would I change anything? Yes, I'd make that heads-up display system easier to use to start with, although again I'm now happier with mine now that I took the time to configure it for my tastes. I'd also like even more EV-only range, but it's hard to complain about 37-40 miles given the competition out there, and as battery technology (solid state, I'm waiting!) improves, this will become less of an issue. Until that time, this vehicle is perfect for what I think is MOST people, especially if you live in an area where charging stations are few and far between, and the weather get bitterly cold (which cuts battery range by more than 30%...and let's not even talk about what it does for charging speeds). I'd also like to be able to plug in to DC fast chargers and charge at a faster rate if I'm travelling long distances. While the vehicle is able to plug into those systems, it's charge rate is not much faster, so it's not worth the time when on a long trip, especially when you're still getting 35+ MPG on the regular hybrid system. That's not a big minus, and honestly, most people won't care about that, but I'm just saying.
Overall, I couldn't be happier! This vehicle is exactly what I hoped it would be, and several pleasant surprises, as well.
