Canadian SX PHEV Trim

2024 Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid
I moved quite smoothly from a 2021 Sportage SX to the 2024 Sportage SX PHEV, mainly because of my daily commute. I enjoyed the performance of the 2021 SX turbo, but soon tired of the price of gas in the post Ukraine war era. My cousin had purchased a Tuscon PHEV, and while I didn't like the styling, I sure as heck was miffed at his ludicrous in-town mileage.
2024 SX PHEV is a smooth … and powerful machine. It handles the change between EV and HEV imperceptibly. It goes slightly faster than the 2021 when you put your foot down, which I find surprising. So far, I've only had the engine turn on a few of these recent mornings where I've demanded heat. My current tank of gas (mainly in-town commutes) is sitting at 1.5L/100km which is absolutely bonkers.
The inside of this vehicle makes my 2021 look like it was made 10 years ago. There's a sweeping digital dash with a refreshing instrument cluster and carplay interface. Everything is austere and minimal, but futuristic. The premium sound package is ok as far as these things go, although I find the timbre of it less appealing than the 2021 Sportage SX package.
This leads me to the only real gripe with this car: it has no wireless carplay. I repeat: this flagship Sportage has NO WIRELESS CARPLAY. This makes no sense especially since the wireless charger plate that you rest your phone on can't even really fit if it's plugged into the carplay USB interface. My cousin's 2 year old Tuscon has wireless carplay as does my sister's 1 year old Kia Soul. In this regard, Kia is failing its customers. In fact, had this not been a shared purchase with my spouse, this single fact would have been a deal-breaker for me.
All in all, it's a sharp SUV with sleek styling--both within and without--and it has a battery that will beat down your fuel costs if you only have to contend with a modest daily commute. The SX has all the premium features one could want and, for a box on wheels, has good road manners.
Edit: The only complaint with its road manner, so to speak, is the input lag on the throttle when this thing comes to a near stop. If you come to a stop sign and don't make a full stop, you'll notice some throttle latency when getting back on the pedal, and it's really annoying. There's definitely some wacky PHEV transmission delay going on here because my previous Sportage (a fully gas-driven guzzler) had no such input delay. I could definitely see this as a deal-breaker for a potential buyer. This is technically my partner's car, but we share it a great deal. If I were the sole buyer I would have had serious reservations with my two gripes: no wireless carplay and throttle delay on rolling stops
