2023 Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid
I purchased New. I buy the top of the line evry 2-3 yrs. I purchased this after balancing MPG with cost and expected trade in value. I baby my cars. I do not jack rabbit start. I brake early to take advantage of electrical regeneration. This car average MPG is 22-24 mpg. It never gets over this, unless coasting down hill. Looks like Kia is back to their old tricks at overstating MPG, … which they were previously sued by govt, and lost.
Also, rear tailgate chooses when it wants to auto-open. I took this to dealer. They tried and saw the rear hatch did not work. Backed away and came back to car, then it worked. So after a tech looked at it, said it did not throw up any codes so working as it should. NO-it is intermittent issue. I know it is hard to duplicate, but they saw it not working.
Air conditioning would not cool car when 80 deg out. I had to open windows to cool off car. Dealer says they tested and blowing cold air. OK, did you test inside or outside? Well it is 50deg outside, so just the fan alone will blow cool air. Needed to test inside. Either way, this is the top of the line PHEV, It should be able to cool the car.
Has less than 10 K miles on it. Left my house, 1st intersection, has braking issue. Pushed, and no stop. I kept pushing harder and harder, finally both feet on pedal. stopped 1/2 way thru intesection. Just takes a lot more pressure to stop. Then started out and it coughed and jerked. All dash lights went on. Immediately took to dealer, did not shut vehicle off. They connected and told me one of the issues, code showing failed rear speed sensor. I also told them I have had 6 times, when remote starting car. I get in and strong smell of smoke. My Mrs even asked me if I was smoking and I do not.
Kia connect ap has a LOT of issues. Latest update removed the ability to have vehicle lock the doors before performing remote start. So, the remote start (On daily timer or not) fails. Says one or more doors left unlocked. I go check and all are locked. Kia ap does not work well.
Get out of drivers door. Go and try to open any other doors, and will not open. You have to use the unlock on inside of drivers door. This is a issue. You get out to get your children out, or grab something and doors will not open. Also, you cannot lock the vehicle without having the keys right there. So you forget to lock the doors, go back out and push button (inside or outside) and will not lock. A real safety issue. If you leave any kids or passenger in car to go back inside or in store, they cannot lock the vehicle for safety. What would possess anyone to program the soft ware so you cannot lock the car without the key.
I am very disappointed that I purchased this vehicle. I could have saved the extra $ in purchase price and not gone with this, and saved those $ to use to buy gas, and been thousands of $ ahead.
Too bad toyata Rav4 hybrid was so much more $.
I am now driving a loaner 2024 Sportage Xline. This is not the Prestige. Handling is better than on my 2023, but it is very noisy. You can hear all the road nose. You also feel all the bumps in the road. NOT as comfortable a ride. And the power, this is terrible. It has none. And no wonder, same small 1.5 pulling around this large vehicle. Really needs a 9 speed transmission to make up for the lack of power.
