2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid
Initially, I was skeptical about buying a Kia, as I previously had a Used 2014 Mazda 6 75k miles with no issues. I had the Mazda for about 3 years, with no issues. Every 4 months I did an oil change which cost me 40$ each time.
I test-drove a lot of vehicles from Subaru, Toyota, Honda, etc. I decided to buy Kia Sportage for its cabin space and rear legroom. I am 6.2 and I was able to sit … comfortably behind my driver seating position. Moreover, to get all the features in the Kia, Rav4 costs around 6k more than the Kia. I like the Kia exterior and interior look compared to Rav4. My wife felt Rav4 was very outdated compared to Kia's interior and technology.
20000 Mile Experience: So far, I have taken the car to 3 services (Complimentary from Kia). I am due for a major service. The car has blown my expectations in terms of reliability. So far, I did not even have a single issue with the vehicle. I was always skeptical and doubted to buy a Kia. I have heard of a lot of issues with Kia vehicles and Turbo Charged engines. But Kia has stepped up their game for a first gen of refreshed. The interior and exterior of the vehicle have held up solid and look new even now. I have been able to average 33 to 34 mpg in winter months and 38 to 40 mpg during summer months.
Pros:
Reliable so far - 20000 miles
Ventilated Front Seats - Loved using it during summer long drives.
Lots of tech features. Some of my favorite tech are Highway Drive Assist 2 which I use daily. Auto Hold feature in city traffic. Alerts when the vehicle in the front moves. 360-degree panoramic camera view which helps me park easily without any tension. Seat adjusts automatically for easy getting out of the vehicle.
Very good cabin space and legroom for even taller adults.
Wired Apple Carplay - It is not as glitchy as the wireless option and is quick and stable.
A spare tire that fits in the trunk as most hybrid vehicles nowadays have a tyre repair kit.
The Interior is quieter than the Subaru Forester or Rav4 (I test-drove both)
Cons:
Even the top trim does not come with a HomeLink mirror / automatic dimming. It cost 370$ more for the mirror and to fix the Kia service was charging 200$ :(
I did not like the music system, the Harmon Kardon system is not as good as Bose. I feel it to be less powered, I had to keep volumes high to listen to my favorite music.
There is noticeable body roll when driving through corners
I think Kia's services are expensive compared to Japanese counterparts. I will know with upcoming current services.
