Glad I Didn't Overlook

Carl in CA, 09/01/2022
2022 Nissan Rogue SV 4dr SUV (1.5L 3cyl Turbo CVT)
This vehicle is better than I expected based on the review I read here at Edmunds. I was looking for a vehicle that had comfortable seating, was quiet at freeway speeds, gets good gas mileage and had a cargo area with useful dimensions - tall enough and long enough to enable me to carry bikes standing up (with the bike's front wheel removed).Over about a year, I either rented or test … drove a Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Venza, Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sportage, Kia Sorento, Ford Escape, Ford Edge, Volkswagen Tiguan, Subaru Forester and BMW X-3. Edmunds' review says "Elevated wind and road noise at highway speeds" so I skipped looking at this vehicle until the end and was surprised to find it to be among the quietest I'd driven. It's much quieter than the highly praised CX-5 and equally quiet to the Venza. The seats are very comfortable. Much better than the highly praised Kia / Hyundai products. Edmunds review says, "Smaller back seat". This is wrong. Maybe they mistakenly reviewed the smaller Nissan Rogue Sport instead? The Rogue is the only vehicle I found with a cargo area tall enough for me to carry bikes inside. All of the other vehicles have cargo area heights that are too short (less than 2.5 ft.). This is also the only vehicle that has a flat cargo area once the rear seats are folded. You could throw a mattress in there and sleep in there. The Rogue has the best gas mileage of any non-hybrid SUV I looked at and its gas mileage is near that of the more expensive hybrid SUVs (I'm looking at you RAV4 hybrid). Nissan achieves this with a three cylinder engine that varies its compression ratio based on throttle inputs. Despite its efficiency, this engine feels very powerful and the vehicle accelerates rapidly when asked. This engine is coupled to a CVT that is tuned to have the feel of a conventional automatic.
