2025 Porsche 718 Cayman Consumer Reviews

Thank you Porsche
Big step up for me car-wise. Considered a CPO but based on used car prices, it actually only came out to be a few thousand more to build/buy new. This was a Covid-life crisis purchase for me… and the teenager in me who loved wringing out Honda 5-speed Civics, is in heaven. Thank you Porsche for still making these available. I can’t say anything else that the 2 decades of Car & Driver 10 Best hadn’t already said. It’s a sublime sexy beast, and I have a base model with no performance upgrades. My wife, who understands my car disease but has never cared for anything I’ve owned… even she can’t deny a smile and laugh when we’re in the thing. I am tall at 6’4 and while the cabin totally fits me, easily, the ingress and egress is obviously eventful, haha. I think my desire to not scuff the sills, doors, and/or rub the bolsters makes it even more stressful of a experience. I’m still trying to find that sweet spot comfort setting (manual sports seats plus) but really, the cabin is a pure joy to be in. This is my daily driver, at least for a couple years when we upgrade my wife’s car, then it may become a 2-3x/week driver. So far getting 19-20 mpg in city traffic with sport mode and exhaust on. The only premiums I checked were folding mirrors, ventilated seats, and sports plus seats. The standard 18-inch wheels just give it that old school roadster look… and the drive, while certainly sporty, is actually great, biggest win is it’s wife-approved. I love it and with only 350 miles into ownership, I already hope to be a P-car guy for the rest of my life.

15 months of ownsership
So Edmunds gives the GT4RS low scores in comfort and practicality? lol, good to know. So, after 15 months of owning my GT4RS (after a 718 GT4, 911 times 2, 2 Ferraris) is that I’ve never felt a car more planted and exciting to drive. The sound is every bit as crazy as has been reported. I have PCCBs and the feedback and feel is unreal. Most performance cars feel like a road car that’s been modified for the track (I’m talking to you BMW) while this car feels like a track car you can also use on the roadbb. Mostly.

Some Cayman Love
OK, so I may be biased, but owning 3 Caymans has given me some serious love for the 981/718. My first Cayman was a 718 GT4 that I bought in summer of 2020 when the market for everything tanked and you could get one for MSRP. My intent was to track the car but when I received it with 13 miles on the odometer I said no way was it going to be in harm’s way. As the prices started to creep up I bought a Sapphire Blue 2014 Cayman S with beige interior and now use that as my daily driver and track car. Have updated the brakes to yellow caliper Brembo GTs, ducktail spoiler, GT4 side vents, GT4 rear diffuser, and a TechArt front spoiler and running Cup 2s. The GT4 and 981CS are somewhat familiar to each other but very different in feel. The GT4’s steering has an indescribable feedback, it’s amazing. The ceramic brakes are otherworldly. The entire car feels slightly bigger (exact same size) but far more planted. On rougher roads it feels like the GT4 is actually pushing the tires down into the road surface, the Cayman S feels like a very good road car, but not at the same level as the GT4. So the third Cayman? A GT4RS, currently in production, due in by mid-November. It took me having to trade in my GT4 early to score an allocation, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Pure ghost magic
I have a 2022 GT4 that’s ghost white with all upgrades. It is a beast in white clothing…it’s sound is gruff, it’s look is serene, it’s speed is magic
