AMG and things no one told you
vicki montague, 12/29/2017
We have just turned 5,000 miles and have been told we already need new tires. We have been experiencing horrible noises and grabbing when turning sharply. After our dealer checked it out for 2 days they claimed it was because of our tires and cold weather. However, we live in Houston,Tx where it is rarely cold and experienced these noises when it was 90 degrees outside. We are now putting 4 new tires on the vehicle because it seems we have no choice as they will not align it without new tires! We hope this fixes this, but we are more than upset that these expensive tires get only 5,000 miles before needing replacing. The dealer indicated we should have known that an AMG would need new tires frequently. Funny no one mentioned this when we were buying the car.
Think twice

This suv down not get good gas mileage as advertised. The seats are her uncomfortable. The technology, specifically the display of radio, navigation and other options on the display are too confusing and not easy to navigate when driving. If your door is left open and you try to open and shut while the car is on park, the car slams itself into park mode. Not worth the money. My car was retailed at 52k. Never again!
Poor quality car

It is not what it is made out to be. We purchased a new GLC 500 last year- been to the dealership about 5 times so far- many broken parts required fixing. Brakes repeated made noise. Had to contact BBB for Mercedes to make a repair. Worst luxury car we have owned. Look around at other brands before you buy.

More about the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class

The 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class is primarily a carryover model from last year when it debuted as a more refined and stylish replacement for the rather boxy GLK-Class. It's obvious that consumers responded to the improved ride, handling and features of the new model, since sales climbed steadily throughout the GLC's first year of production, making it highly competitive among luxury compact SUVs.

Because of its recent introduction and track record of success, it's little surprise that changes to the GLC for the 2017 model year are few. There are a couple of new color choices, an available premium leather interior package and one or two other tweaks. Perhaps the biggest news is the addition of the sportier GLC Coupe and the performance-oriented AMG GLC43.

The cabin of the 2017 GLC maintains its status as a class-leading interior with luxurious touches like genuine wood trim, soft yet supportive seats, solid controls and a host of standard comfort and convenience features. A variety of optional accessories and packages allow buyers to customize their GLC and ramp up the luxury to whatever level is desired.

Power for the base GLC comes from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 241 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Performance-minded buyers who step up a level to the AMG version get a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder powerplant with 362 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel drive is optional on the base model and standard on higher trim levels.

In the compact luxury SUV class, it's sometimes difficult to balance decent handling with the kind of smooth ride buyers expect, but the GLC manages both quite capably. The ride quality is among the best in its class, while the handling easily inspires enough confidence through the corners to satisfy the majority of drivers. Of course those who like their crossover to achieve more track-like performance might want to check out the AMG model with its firmer sport suspension.

Fuel economy for the GLC with the four-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive is EPA rated at 24 mpg combined (22 city/28 highway). Adding all-wheel drive to the standard model barely changes those figures, but moving up to the V6 brings a rating of 20 mpg combined (18 city/24 highway).

The base GLC300 is outfitted with a comfortable and spacious interior and a large number of luxury, convenience, safety and technology features. Buyers who need something extra can step up to the GLC300 4Matic and tack on even more packages and options, while those looking for greater performance should test-drive the AMG GLC43. Whichever model interests you, let Edmunds help you find the 2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class SUV that best meets your needs.
