Used 1991 Geo Metro Consumer Reviews
Outstanding Vehicle
Originally bought this car for gas mileage and had planned to keep for 3-5 years. I figured it was more of a throw away car to be used no longer than the 100,000 mile mark. Ten years later and 135,000 miles I am ready to restore this vehicle because it has been one of the most reliable vehicle I have owned in the last 15 years.
Cheap Sportster
The convertable is fun to drive, especially with the top down. The milage has been about 33 MPG overall, but I do a lot of stop and go. I have had it over a year and it starts every time (ODO says 57,000 but probably 157,000). It is a fair weather car though unless you like to get wet as water works its way over the top of the window glass and on to your lap. It also should be garaged to protect the top. I was told that it would last twice as long if I kept the car garaged.

wonderful
Bought this car from a used car dealer in 1992, and still runs great to this day. Only Major repairs were the fuel filter, cat converter, and fuel jet. Ok the water pump too. Most of those repairs were 10 yrs after purchase. The water pump and fuel jet were within the last year. Still gets 30+ miles to the gallon and purrs like a kitten. Best $7000 investment ever!
Second time around
I owned my first Geo in 1995. it was q 1991 that had been written off as totaled by the insurance co. I paid $3,500 for it. I drove it and loved it 'til 1999. I sold it because the family had grown and we needed a bigger car. Before then I had had two Fiat 600s--good cars for transportation, but required too much time in the shop. Four years ago I saw a 1991 on eBay. Not the exact same car, but its lookalike. I bought it and had it shipped from Mich.--been in Geo heaven ever since.

First new car I bought
I bought the 1990 Metro new for $6499. My wife used to drive between Randolph AFB and Lackland AFB everyday for work. Almost always she would encounter "rush hour traffic" that moved at 45-50 MPH. On her 90 mile commute at this low speed she routinely achieved 62-63 MPG week after week. After about 18 months she decided that she needed a more comfortable car. It had 65,000 trouble-free miles on it when we sold it. No cruise control, no A/C, no frills of any kind. BTW, on a trip to South Dakota and back we averaged 65 MPH and got 46 MPG HWY.
