Klein Honda in Everett
Dealership Service Review
A Couple of weeks ago I took I took my 2002 Honda Accord EX for servicing at Klein Honda in Everett, WA and told the service person that my left rear seat belt had to be replaced as it had been slowly fraying to the point that it was now stuck in the retractor, and it was not unusable. I told him that I was told that seat belts have a life time warranty and he insisted before looking at my seat belt that they did not. When I told him that I did not agree with him he asked to look at the seat belt and said that they would have to charge me $595 to replace it. I went and did some research on the Internet regarding seat belt warranty and found many reviews where people had had a problem with their seat belt and had no problem having them replaced by their Honda dealer. Their dealers replaced their seat belt without question. I went back a few days later with information I had printed from the Internet and asked for the service manager. I was told by the assistant service manager if he could help me as the service manager was not in. I told him about my dispute regarding lifetime seat belt warranty and he told me that the warranty did not apply. You would think that as a service manager he would be knowledgeable about warranties pertaining to Honda. When I tried to show him the information I had printed, he would not even look at it and didn't even offer to look at my seat belt, and again insisted that they did not have a lifetime warranty. I told hm that I was very unhappy about the way this situation was being handled and he told me to come back the following Monday at 11:00 am and talk to the service manager to see what they could do. I can't understand why the left rear seat belt which is rarely used would continue to fray over time to the point of finally getting stuck in the retractor. It is rare for me to have people riding in the back seat and why only the left rear seat belt. Not only do I never allow anyone to drive my car I do not have children or pets that ride in the car at any time. The mileage in my car is barely at 58,000 miles, showing how little it is even driven. I came back the following Monday for my appointment with the service manager prepared with my 2002 Warranty Information and when I told the receptionist that I had an appointment at 11:00 am with the service manager no one knew about it. I was told to wait and when the service manager asked me about my problem, I explained it to him and again, without looking at my seat belt said they did not have a warranty. I took him out to look at my belt and showed him my warranty information book and told him to read it. The book reads: "Honda will repair or replace at it's option any Honda seat belt that fails to function properly during normal use. This includes all parts and labor charges. Under the heading: This warranty does not cover (1) Replacement of a properly functioning seat belt assembly strictly for cosmetic or comfort reasons. (2) Failure caused by abuse, alteration, accidental damage, misuse, or malfunction resulting from a collision. None of these apply to my seat belt, but it seems that the assistant manager read into the warranty what he wanted to read into it and again insisted that the warranty did not apply to my seat belt and refused to do anything about it. Before this seat belt situation happened, I had decided that I was ready to purchase a new Honda and had been talking to the sales department regarding my purchase. But I am very disappointed with the way Klein Honda has dealt with my situation and will never do business with them. It's strange how the service department had been friendly with me as long as they were taking my money for their service, but that friendliness sure changed when I had a dispute about my seat belt, in which case they want nothing to do with me. I keep my cars for 10-12 years and have had three Hondas and have never had any problem with any seat belt. I have asked many of my friends who have Hondas if they have every had a problem with their seat belts and they have stated that their cars, some of which are as old as 15-20 years have never had a seat belt malfunction and they know one who has ever had a problem. These are people who carry children and pets regularly in their car and their seats have had some damage by wear and tear and abuse, but never the seat belts. My car in perfect condition inside and out and in fact every car that I have sold had been purchased from me by someone who knows how well I maintain my cars. I now have three people who want my car when I decide which car to buy. I don't even allow food or drink in my car. I have a lot of friends who have Hondas, but I will let them know not to do business with Klein Honda. I am planning on calling other dealers in the area regarding my seat belt and see what kind of response I get to determine whether I want to purchase another Honda or go with Camry instead. I will also call the Better Business ureau. I also plan to contact the Honda Headquarters regarding my dispute and put in a complaint. I will also post my dissatisfaction with Klein Honda on the Internet.
