No test drive without insurance on another car

Horrible. The dealership has a bizarre policy of not allowing those without a currently insured vehicle to even TEST drive a car. I moved from a major city where I did not own a car. I am ready to purchase, and this dealership complicated the process. Not an auspicious start to my relationship with Mercedes-Benz and a great way to lose out on a sale. I also contacted three other Mercedes-Benz dealerships in San Antonio, Dallas, and Georgetown, NONE have this requirement and said the dealer and the salesperson accompanying me on the test drive should be insured. There should have been absolutely no issue here.

Unfortunately, due to our insurance program (coupled with state-mandated laws), we are required to collect proper insurance for anyone who is driving our vehicles.
