My Review Of Jeff Wyler Eastgate Auto Mall: I was contacted by Brent M from Jeff Wyler's Eastgate Mazda in Ohio by e-mail after sending in a trade-in request indicating an interest in the Mazda CX-5 at a price of 10K plus my trade, out the door. When he 1st contacted me, I informed him that he was too far away and I had no interest, but he persuaded me in another e-mail to at least consider doing business there. I also provided him with some info about other dealerships I had visited & the amount I had been offered for my trade-in. After about 6 e-mails and a phone call, we worked out a Internet deal for a specific vehicle, Stock # A80802, and how much it would cost, "out the door". (max. of 11500.00 + My 08 Mini Cooper S) For him to consider and value my trade, I had sent quite a few recent pictures of my 08 Mini Cooper S that included every angle, including the engine compartment & wheels. I had informed him that I walked out on an offer of 12800.00 for my car, as it was worth far more in the condition it is in. (NOTE THE USE OF THE WORD "WE") HIS COMMENTS : "Here's where we are: There is a history of transmission issues with the Mini. Obviously we will need to test out the car in order to commit to a firm number. That said, as long as it drives as good as it looks, so to speak we feel like we can get you very close if not all the way to $14000 for your car. But I have to let you know that even if we do that we'll still be about $1000 to $1500 away from your $10000 out the door target including taxes and fees. If you think that's close enough I'd love to help you put this together today. We communicated again, I told him my schedule had been cleared and I intended to be at the dealership at 12:00 on Sunday. I arrived Sunday at 11:30 & checked out the vehicle, then waited until noon to learn that Brent wasn't there. Larry was now the "Salesman" who indicated that Brent was involved in other things and that he would handle the matter. After letting him get caught up and get some info, he drove the car (with me) over to the Used Car Mgr or appraiser, (not sure of the title). That individual drove my MINI for a short ride, indicating that it was a good looking, good performing Mini, and making no inference of any problems. (THERE WERE/ARE NONE) My 2008 Mini Cooper S is a great looking vehicle that has only had me and one other person as the owner. I had recent service (preventative maintenance) replacing the Turbo, Water Pump, belts, friction wheel, spark plugs, and other parts that are known to start having problems after 70K. My Mini had never been broken down or towed in for repairs. This was all conveyed to Brent. I had added a new set of floor mats that I had saved just for when I decided to sell it Sunday morning before leaving. I also cleaned the interior completely to present the best possible appearance before I drove up to Ohio from Louisville Ky. to make the deal. All recalls are up-to-date, and I drove from Louisville Ky to Batavia Oh., in just over 2 hours. Now to the paperwork. As Larry prepared his proposal to take into Mgmt., you know, began to work up the deal, I send in my OK to buy at the difference of 11,000.00, and infer a willingness to go to the extreme end of 11,500.00 that Brent had mentioned. (NOTE: This is already 1500.00 higher than my initial request of 10K out the door, that Brent said he could get me near.) Larry returns shortly and informs me that it will now take 13,500.00 to make the deal. He commented that they only want to give $12,000.00 for my car. (no reason, just decided apparently to drop the price knowing I had driven 2+ hours to get there and was a captive audience), he also made a comment claiming they were losing 1500.00 in making the deal. (I'm thinking, you didn't know this yesterday before sending me the firm offer-right, 1st deal ever right?? Amazing) I offered 11750.00 to them since I had invested so much time to date, and was told the 13,500.00 was firm. My wife was waiting elsewhere for me to return in the new Mazda. (only slightly embarrassing) This was unethical and unfair, similar to a bait & switch, but without switching the product, just raising the price 2,000.00 after committing to a lower price. It may even be illegal, I've got to check with the Ohio Attorney General and a local attorney. I got in my Mini and drove back home with a total investment of over 7.5 hours of my weekend time, and needless fuel/money wasted! There was congested traffic for hours on the way home that day. After not showing up for the appointment and costing me quite a bit of time and a little money, Brent sends me this note! E-MAIL I RECEIVED AFTER MAKING THE LONG TRIP HOME: Just wanted to say thanks for coming in today and letting me help you in your vehicle buying decisions. If I can do anything else for you let me know. (He wasn't even there for the appointment, and he's sending me mail after costing me time and money, not my favorite person right now!) I responded by e-mail in an angry tone, which prompted Tim, one of the Managers there to call me. He called 2 times & I was home the second time the next day and spoke with him. He of course knew that I was angry, and wanted to make it all better. The problem is, he wanted to make it all better if I were willing to pay him more money. Again, unethical behavior from this dealership. Unwilling to honor their commitment! SUMMARY: They made a FIRM offer based upon seeing my car, then found no problems with my Mini. The manager that called, Tim, stated that it was being considered as Excellent, but that they couldn't go higher on the amount. After a lot of conversation, it ends up that he only wants to help himself & the dealership. They could care less that they made a deal and basically lied to me about the price they would pay for my trade. According to Tim, their "Low" offer was the most they would ever pay. Kind of makes me wonder why the made me the offer in the first place. (remember all of the "WE" pointed out above, that was COPIED & PASTED from Brent's e-mail to me. There are honest people in the world, and even in the new car business, but you'll have to search high & low from what I'm seeing. They all want to say that if you run your car through an auction, this is the price you would receive. I wasn't at an auction, I was at a New Car Dealership where they expect Retail & want to act like a guy running a Pawn Shop by trying to take advantage of those that they can, when they can without regard for basic honesty. What a waste of my time and energy. I'll waste some time & energy now by sending postcards (so the info will be readable on the way) with this same info on it to nearby businesses and residences near that zip code. I've committed my own financial resources and my Stamps.com account to spreading the word as best I can. BUYER BEWARE!!!!! Especially when dealing with Jeff Wyler & Associated dealerships
