questionable service

onCar in shop 5 days. The engine was hesitating briefly but not often. Mechanics drove the car for 2 days then said that oil was leaking from top cam cover. Was it necessary to drive the car for 2 days to diagnose this problem or could it have been found by having a look at the engine first? Did driving it make it worse? At any rate, I paid $850 for the repair and the car is running well now. When I picked up the car the gas tank was empty. There was a greasy film on the hood of the car which needed to be cleaned twice. After I looked under the hood and put the hood back down, a piece of trim fell off and I cannot get it to stay on.
