Ed Voyles Kia of Chamblee
Dealership Sales Review
This post is for you, as a consumer, so that you will learn from my mistakes. You may say it may be buyers remorse, I would say maybe, but read on so you can see how easy it is to get taken at the dealership. I accept all the fault since I let this happen, but please read and learn and beware. Saturday 09:00am, I took my wife to Ed Voyles Kia of Chamblee, since she really liked the 2013 Kia Soul. Mind you we were only going to test drive the Kia Soul and compare prices with other cars that compared with this Kia. We told the salesman that we were only test driving. We tested the Kia above the base priced. Then the Kia Soul with all the bells and whistles (Premium Package) We liked this car. We asked for the salesman's business card and he asked us to follow him so he could get us his business card. Mistake number 1, we went in. He did not give us his card, but presents us with a paper to present to his manager of our offer for the Kia Soul we liked. We liked the Kia Soul with the premium package that included all the bells and whistles listed for 24700. I figure lets see if they will accept the price I offered. I told the salesman that I would not pay MSRP, that I would pay no more than 25000 walk out price, I figure with taxes, title and dealer costs already included in this price this was a fair price. My wife also mentioned that we would not pay for the tinting that the car already had. Salesman says, let me see what I can do. Manager comes back to talk to us, says were killing him, that this is a very popular model and that he could not sell it for what I asked, so I agree to pay no more than 26000, mistake number 2. He said he can make it work. My wife asks for a red color, they do not have this color, so to keep their cost down, can she pick a color they have on the lot, OK we say, mistake number 3. Sales manager says he can make this work. I did tell him that that was the most I would pay for this car and nothing else. We agreed on the final walk out price of 26000 with no money down. We started the loan application processing with final price of 26000 contingent on favorable interest rate. I never told them my monthly payments that I could afford, only the walk out price I was willing to pay. They come back and say we are approved and that they will send me to Financing. Its now 11:30am. Finance takes a good while to call us in, its now 12:30. This is when everything goes downhill, I still feel sick to my stomach for playing the following game with this finance manager. This is how it went, I ask before I sign anything I need to know what my interest rate was on my loan. He tells me he cannot tell me that until I sign some paperwork, I asked him that if anything I sign before I see my terms are not binding, he assures me they are not binding, Mistake number 4. He finally shows me a sheet that has 4 different monthly payments under each packages (dealer add ons) offered, with my agreed upon price and monthly payments in the top right corner in very small print. He tells me Kia will finance me at 5.9%. I figure I can refinance as soon as I leave the dealership with my credit union at a lower rate and save some money. My payments were reasonable and within my budget, I do not tell him that. I tell the finance guy that I do not want to hear about the packages offered(dealer add ons) extended warranties , he says he has to go over them anyways. My Fault, some how he convinces me that I do need one of the packages. I ask him to give me the Premium package for the Economy package price, this would be 53 dollars more on my monthly payments. The finance person does not tell me how much more this package will add to my loan balance, I have to calculate it myself for the life of the loan. It came out to 3,800 added to my 26000 walk out price. He agrees to give me the premium package for 63 dollars above my monthly payments. So my payments are now 493. I figure for all they are going to give me I can live with this. When it comes time to sign off on the items offered in the premium package, I initial the items included in this package, so I think, because he tells me to initial some and leave others blank. He does not go over the premium package items that were in the first paper he showed me, so I know he did not give me all the items in the premium package, mistake number 5. All this time this finance person was the nicest person you could imagine, distracts you by talking about other things not related to the financing, should have known better, he assures me that not even his family would get the discounts we were getting. What discounts? Its now 1:30pm, I started signing the paperwork and noticed that the tinting was still listed in the loan items, finance person just mumbles something, and does not seem too concerned about it, but does not even try to explain, were tired and ready to go, so we leave it, my Fault, mistake number 6. Final price for the loan 29800. I know its too much for a Kia Soul, but hey we liked the car. By now were ready to go, I feel sick to my stomach, but manage to smile and leave. This was the worst experience, I have had in a dealership. Most of the underhanded techniques I have read about bad dealerships, I experienced at Ed Voyles Kia of Chamblee, My wife loves the car but as for me, this car is a constant reminder of the this most unfortunate experience, I bet the finance person was talking about us on how he suckered us into this deal. Because of the loan balance, I could not refinance due to the value of the car versus the loan balance. I owe much more than the car is worth with the add ons added to my bank loan. Please learn from my mistakes, and if you feel something is just not right walk out..... Everything that happened I let it happen, so I accept all fault, but to the owner of this Dealership, all I can say to you is that I will not recommend your dealership, I will not buy another Kia ever. I will not use your dealership for service, If I lose your warranty because of this, I can live with this, just so I won't have to ever step into your dealership again....
