Test Driver Ratings & Comments

Acceleration commentsLaunch control not as effective as we'd like. This feature will likely produce consistent runs but isn't the quickest way to get the Cobalt down the strip -- at least on the surface we use. Because of this engine's low-rpm torque production and flat torque curve, the best launch technique was to utilize zero wheelspin off the line. Any wheelspin at all considerably increased elapsed time. Flat-shift feature works well and is easy to use.
Braking ratingVery Good
Braking commentsConsistent, confident pedal feel from first run to last. Brake feel and response were clearly engineered by people who know how brakes should perform on a performance car. It's a little surprising to find it in a Cobalt.
Handling ratingExcellent
Handling commentsSteering, yaw response and body roll are all very predictable and easy to manage. Bottom line is that the Cobalt SS is a rewarding car to drive around corners. It's stable in fast transitions like the slalom and generates decent grip on the skid pad.
