edmunds TESTED
The 2025 Acura MDX has a high-quality look and feel, and every MDX comes with a full complement of standard advanced driving aids. By replacing the frustrating-to-use infotainment interface with a new highly responsive touchscreen, Acura has fixed one of the MDX's biggest issues. We wish acceleration were better, but otherwise the MDX is one of the best luxury midsize three-row SUVs you can buy.
Pros
- Pro:Generous cargo and passenger space

Overview
We've liked the Acura MDX's roomy interior, excellent value and pleasing performance ever since the latest generation debuted for 2022. Now Acura has updated the 2025 MDX with some new technology features to address a few small issues we had to make this very good three-row luxury SUV even better. Best of all, Acura didn't change anything else, so the MDX is still fun to drive and can still seat up to seven passengers with little issue.
Edmunds spotlight: New touchscreen infotainment
One of the biggest issues we had with earlier versions of this fourth-generation MDX was the so-called True Touchpad Interface, or TTI. It seemed like a good idea in theory, but it was complicated to use when driving because it worked differently depending on if you were using the Acura interface or smartphone integration. Luckily, Acura has abandoned it once and for all in the 2025 MDX in favor of a much more straightforward touchscreen. Not only is it a huge improvement over the previous touchpad, it's one of the snappiest touchscreens we've used and has a straightforward, sensible layout.
Competitors to consider
Now in its fourth generation, the MDX has never quite enjoyed the shine of European luxury SUVs such as the Audi Q7, BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. Lexus also has a compelling new option with its new three-row TX SUV. But even among this group, the MDX is worth a look, primarily due to its compelling price advantage. Be sure to read our test team's Expert Rating below for a deeper dive into the MDX's strengths and flaws.
What’s it like to live with?
We drove a 2022 Acura MDX SH-AWD Advance for about a year as part of Edmunds' long-term test fleet. We liked this latest MDX's comfort, utility and more spacious interior, but the touchscreen interface was a low point; luckily, that's changed. We also struggled to match EPA fuel economy ratings. Read our MDX 20,000-mile long-term test to learn more about what it's like to own and live with this current-generation MDX.
Which MDX does Edmunds recommend?
Acura has reshuffled which trim comes with what, which makes us think the MDX Technology Package is the better buy these days. You get the new Bang & Olufsen audio system, leather seats, the new touchscreen and updated driver assist systems, plus all-wheel drive is optional. The A-Spec has some unique styling tweaks and comes with standard all-wheel drive.

Nice car let down by abysmal build quality

2024 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
Pros: The handling, styling, seats, stereo, safety scores, headlights
Cons: The touchpad sucks with Apple CarPlay. With the Acura systems it is fine. The Build Quality is SO bad. Acura should be ashamed. I have had to bring it back for misaligned trim pieces right after buying, and every time I drive it there are new squeaks, creaks, and rattles from the interior. It sounds like a 10 … year old car going over bumps. "precision crafted" is a complete joke. Also the wireless charger is basically useless.
I am so frustrated in the constant rattling and creaking of the interior I do not know if I will be able to keep it. Whoever is in charge of QAQC at the factory needs to be fired. Make sure you do a long test drive the exact vehicle you may be buying on rough roads with a keen ear and check all the panels and trim to make sure they are lined up right.
Sunroof won’t close all the way

2024 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
We recently bought the 2024 MDX base advance . The car was used but certified through Acura. We noticed less than 24 hrs after buying the car that the sunroof wasn’t sealed. Air was coming in . Then we noticed water stains on the headliner. We took it back to the dealer and they said it was fixed . On the way home we realized it wasn’t fixed. The dealer is coming Monday to pick the car … up from our home. They also offered “ to cancel the deal and refund my money”. We shall see. However, it’s a sharp looking and driving suv. We test drove many other brands and this was the over best in our opinion . The car could use a little more power. In sport mode it does move . It’s a solid feeling suv. Handles better than our old 2023 xc90 . It’s smoother too. If the sunroof isn’t fixed we are giving the car back.
Wire harness/whiney noise/rough shift

2025 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/A-Spec and Advance Packages (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
This is our 3rd Acura MDX. We have had the wire harness replaced/“repaired” 3 different times so far. Every warning light on the dash was on and many extra and/or safety features would not work while the lights were on. Since the last replacement we haven’t had any lights on the dash come on. HOWEVER. We have the annoying whiney noise around 45-50 mph, our map is super glitchy and zooms … all the way out anytime navigation instructions are given- and the voice has glitched out a couple of times. Sounded like a CB radio giving instructions. We’ve had scraping noises in the wheel wells several times and were told it was pebbles or stones getting stuck (how?!), when my husband drives the car with his key (driver 2) and then I go to drive it (with my key- driver 1) it doesn’t reset to my key fob specifications. The only way I can “reset” it is to step outside the car lock it and then unlock it and start the car again. There have been several other really random, odd, and annoying small issues. This should not happen on any vehicle, but especially on a brand new vehicle! We are about ready to take it back and get a totally different brand. I’m an Acura girl. This is my forth Acura in my lifetime (first car was an Integra and then 3 MDX) and I am a loyal buyer, but I’m super disappointed and frustrated that the dealership looks at us like we’re idiots when we try to address the issues.
So far so good!

2024 Acura MDX 4dr SUV AWD w/Advance Package (3.5L 6cyl 10A)
Driving and configuring my wife's new MDX… So far so good!
Excellent finish and interior quality. The car feels solid and is very quiet inside. No rattles, no squeaks, the only abnormal sound I can hear is the jingling of the metal ring on the key fob laying in the door top pocket.
Driving mode is easy to switch using large knob in the center console, no need to stop and drill into the … menu options like on new Lexus RX. Sport mode eliminates any feelings of insufficient engine power (at expense of the gas mileage, that's for sure), no jerking transmission then either. With about 4000 miles on it, transmission feels silky smooth.
The sound system is excellent! The infotainment system with its touchpad is fine - no finger smudges on the screen. BTW, the screen panel quality is way better than the one on new Lexus RX. High contrast, deep black, and no way to get sun glare anywhere near. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto – all work like a charm. Default Acura's navigation is actually not that far behind, giving the choice of seamlessly switching between at least 3 navigation systems at any time during the driving (Acura's, Apple/Google Maps, or Waze in my very modest setup).
Engine stop/start is annoying, but there is a way to control it with the brake pedal pressure – light pressure prevents engine from shutting down.
Not sure what those rich folks with $60k+ cars are complaining about gas mileage. It's not a city commuter's car. I'm seeing 26-27 mpg cruising on the highway. It doesn't require premium fuel, that's additional 20% fuel economy for you.
Driver assist features are all good and very usable. I only don't get why would Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) need to be that sensitive and require periodic "proof of presence", literally makes me shake the steering wheel a bit every several minutes. I hope Acura will relax this "rule" with the future software update, …please.
So far, squeaking brakes were the only complaint to the service department. They replaced rear pads and the squeaking gone.
We have a limited number of reviews for the 2025 Acura MDX, so we've included reviews for other years of the MDX since its last redesign.
