The Porsche 2009 PDK is THE best 911 I have had. I have owned it now for 2 years. I have come out of a 97 Twin turbo, then a 996 GT3, Then lastly a 997.1 GT3. I was GOING to buy a 2008 GT3RS. It only had AC. I went on a whim to drive the 911 Carrera S PDK. I was BLOWN away. Its faster than any GT1 motor ... Read More

And I'll go ahead and repeat that I think this thread is obsolete since we're on 2010 Nissan GT-R and 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo currently in production. Any future comparisons have nothing to do with the 2009 GT-R or 2008 Turbo, since changes were made to each, and they are different beasts now.
hey all,...new here,...want to wish all my fellow car nuts a happy holiday,...and now on to our delimma,...my wife and I wanted to check out the nissan gtr, since we've been hearing what a spectacular car it is. I talked to five car dealers this morning, but 9 dealers overall the whole week. Some of them would not talk about it; some of them pretended not to know about it; but some of them simply came out straight and discussed it. I feel sorry for those who have discounted the 2009 PDK model for the 2008 and older units. There is no comparison. First, I recently traded in my 2006 S Cab for a 2009 PDK S Cab. No comparison. The Direct Fuel Injection has added more horsepower, but most importantly, I have seen an incredible difference in fuel efficiency. On the highway, in my '06, I used to get about 21 ... Read More
On a whim, decided to re-visit some old threads. Forgot about how much fun this one was. But now that both the GT-R and 911 are almost completely sold out of 2009 models and updating for 2010, I thought it would be nice to recap what happened with this competition to now. We spent a lot of time talking about speed. There seemed to be some confusion between speed and racing ... Read More
Hi Everyone, I had a 2006 911 C4 Cab then a 2008 Boxster. I've been Porsche-less for a while but a 2009 911 White Coupe PDK is being delivered late this afternoon. I'm as excited over it as I was waiting for my 2006 911 C4 to arrive from Germany. This one's only coming from Hilton Head, SC. :) Don
HI Car_man, Thank you for the EXCELLENT info. I'm also interested in a new 911 (2009 or left-over 2008). Can you please tell me what Porsche's March lease/buy programs are (complete with money factors and residuals for a 10,000 mile 36 month lease). THANK YOU so very much, - Max
Tested both, 2009 4s with PDK and 2008 4s stick, endup going with 2008 stick. Was not thrilled with PDK, steering wheel shifters did not impress either, the whole setup felt geeky, 2009 car made a strange hissing noise, went with the real car. I admit sport exhaust was a big factor. After owning it for 3 months I still LOVE the setup.
Hi bneiderman. $20,000 is a substantial discount on this car, it's probably right around dealer invoice, but I personally would not be surprised if you could do even better than that. Sales at Porsche dealers has completely fallen off of a cliff. They are desperate for business. Combine this with the fact that the 2009 911 is an all-new, significantly improved car and dealers will be even more desperate to get ... Read More

In regards to styling, opinions rule. Build quality? That will most likely be subpar as compared to the 911 Turbo. Let's see what happens though. (All this coming from a Porsche salesman.) :D -moo
Greetings: I went to the San Diego Auto Show 2008, yesterday, and saw the GT-R. The "snake-oil" salesman was touting the GTR to be the best thing since sliced bread. Fair enough, they want to sell cars. However..... any non-biased observer would immediately see the Godzilla styling and body panel issues that this car has...such as, you ask?? Yes ...the different colors between the fender and bumper panels. Very obvious. Plastic ... Read More
2 sec demolish of a porsche on the track ! Good grief, this forum seems to be slipping into a level of testosterone blinded immaturity that is even embarassing to read. If the 2 second difference between a GT-R and 997 Turbo is "demolishing", then what is the 7 second advantage of a 911 GT2 over the GT-R? "Super-duper-uber" demolishing?? Grow up. The fact is, all of these times were posted ... Read More
Greetings: Ya see!, ....... you guys will never understand those who own Porsches. Once you've owned one you realize that there is no car like it and you want nothing else. You guys, Corvette owners included ..just don't get it. WE DON"T CARE. It's been stated before " you get what you pay for. Trimming down always costs you ( one who makes the purschase as well as one who sells ... Read More
Merry Christmas everybody From Canada No hard feelings people The GTR is a new breed squashes a vette or a porshe and is 10x more stable a platform using a v6 it makes the vette v8 engine seem retarded the transmission is new age wind turbolence Drag is slick sucks air that would normally buffet the front of the car out the side areo slits with full functionality this car is ... With that kind of flawed logic, the LS460 must have had a lot of cost cutting compared to the MB S550. The LS has won every comparison test, is far more reliable, and is $25k cheaper. a toyota yaris is more reliable than the S550.
I am not sure if you have had a frontal lobotomy, but to refresh your memory the Altima is sportier than an Accord. Granted that 350Z sales have decreased in last couple of years, it will sell close to 19k units this year, and sold 23k units last year, and 28k units the year before, the boxster/cayman will only sell 9500 units this year, while that is not 3 to 1, ... I am sure Porsche senior management appreciates your concern on their behalf, but I am equally sure they don't share it. Porsche senior management realizes that in order to create a car that performs like a $100,000 Porsche for $70,000 requires some cost cutting engineering (compromise). You get what you pay for.
I am sure Porsche senior management appreciates your concern on their behalf, but I am equally sure they don't share it. In the perenial quest for what car will be the 911 beater, we've had the Corvette, Viper, Acura NSX, AM V8, and a bunch of others try their best over 4+ decades. This year 911 sales will set another record. I too think it's curious that Nissan is apparantly taking ... Read More
In the aforementioned full test of the GT-R, it was the driver's conclusion that the GT-R was more refined and less punishing that the 911 turbo, and I did not describe the 911 as "unsettled". If I was senior management at porsche, I would be worried...very worried. I would think to my self, even though I am primarily a sports car company, I had to create a huge SUV to inflate ... slower in 0-60, tied for quarter mile, slower in slalom. Another guy who prostrates himself to "numbers". If you think 0-60, 1/4 mile and slalom are the entire story, perhaps you should just sit on the throne and read road tests every morning. Why dare drive any of them and risk finding out there is actually more to performance than those particular numbers? By the way, this isn't a "Porsche" bias ... Read More
Unfortunatley, many on this thread are biased. The GT-R will hurt the 911. The GTR will be ~ 67K vs 130K for the porsche which is slower in 0-60, tied for quarter mile, slower in slalom. Although not many who can afford a porsche think that price is an issue, it is hard to justify spending 60K more for a car that offers no significant performance advantage.
Greetings: I would like to wish everyone ( all car lovers ) a Merry Chrsitmas and a Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays! Hoping that no one person takes any of our bantering ( back and forth ) personal, as I do not.. it's continues to be fun to try to grab ones attention by " bad-mouthing " his car a little. We wouldn't be on this forum if we didn't ... Read More
I'm not a big Nissan fan but it would be worthwhile to check out Edmunds' test video on the GT-R. It looks pretty impressive. Typical japanese styling, front end almost looks 350Z ish. I would doubt you could get your hands on a car like this for $70K, production will be so limited. BTW, "launch control" is also standard on the Mark V VW GTI w/ DSG. ;)
