Ryster, thank you for the encouraging words. The dealer is a very reputable dealer and I had no doubts they would fix the car, if possible. It did put a little scare in me since the car was so new. The oil pan gasket was replaced on 1-22-2010 and I have not seen any more oil, yet anyway. I hope that was just a fluke that is now fixed for many, ... Read More

If the issue is a simple gasket, and the dealer properly repairs it, the problem should not recur for several years (if at all.) Now if your leak is massive, and is resulting in quarts of oil being lost in a short amount of time, that would be very concerning and may indicate other issues. I wouldn't allow this seemingly minor issue to ruin your enjoyment of the car. It sounds ... Read More

In November I bought a new 2009 Buick Lucerne because I had such good service out of my 1997 Buick Riviera. I am now thinking I might have made a mistake. The Lucerne apparently has an oil leak. The dealer put a dye in it the other day and is going to check it out Tuesday. When standing under the car looking up, the oil is in the corner of a ... Read More

I couldn't find any like I wanted in my area (Phoenix, AZ.) and wanted to take advantage of the $5,000 rebate plus an additional $500 customer cash Buick sent me. I found a dealer with a sister operation in California who had one exactly like I wanted except for the color (CXL-5, no moon roof or navigation) and bought it yesterday. Well, here I sit boken hearted. I have just been asked to leave my dealer's service area by the owner of the dealership because I was "haranguing" his employees. What I was doing was asking for them to fix the vibration in my car - a 2007 Buick Lucerne CXS, no more and no less. Well, evidently I was way out of bounds with my request which was for them to ... I didn't notice a problem. It vibrates that way because it's a V8 and probably needs a less restrictive exhaust. I don't drive at 1500rpm, ever, though. That's lugging the engine and isn't good for it.

Jimmy you have been had just as I was. I bought an 07 Lucerne CXS (a demo) with 6000 miles on it. From the get go I noticed a vibrating/rumble at various speeds. I took it back to the dealer around 8 or 9 times. They rotated and balanced the wheels; didn't help. Took it back again and they did the same thing again; same result. Took it back again and ... After a very long drive in my 2009 Buick Lucerne, which has 10,000 miles, it had a very loud humming noise from the trunk, the source of which was later identified as the fuel pump. Two mechanics listened to the humming, which by then was much quieter since it is much reduced in city driving, but both have no previous experience with this condition. Try $1200 or less to replace a 4 speed transmission in a Buick(or other GM with one). Yes, the new GM 5-6 speed models are also similarly pricey, so the smart money is on the older 4 speed design. That's some serious money saved, and last I checked, they are very reliable as all of the bugs have been worked out. It's not a fun car. But it's virtually as reliable ... Read More

IMO its not that big of an improvement. The MPG should be similar, (using the Impala's #s) however the highway # comes with the use of cylinder deactivation. The 3.9 is also a dated OHV design, at least it has VVT. Like joe97 said GMs 3.6 is the better option here, however, I read somewhere that the 3.6 is not setup to be installed where the Lucerne is being built. IMO ... Read More

Evidently Buick is dropping the 3.8 liter engine in favor of the 3.9 liter as the base V6 engine for the 2009 Lucerne. Any comments? Does this make the V6 Lucerne a more viable option, with the roughly 30 hp improvement over the 3.8?

The 3800 is the last Buick-designed engine ever made. When it is phased out, there will never be a Buick that drives and rides like a Buick again. All Buicks now will get either the GM High Feature engine or the Cadillac Northstar engine. Who are you kidding? The Lucerne 4.6L was tested by Car and Driver to reach 60mph in 6.9 seconds. It's basically a slug for a V8. The "Hemi" name is ancient but the engine is relatively new (2003) even though it is a pushrod design. The zeta platform seems to be back. The Camaro will be on this platform, as well as a GTO. However, more to the point, so will some RWD sedans. In particular, the W-platform is to be replaced (Impala, Grand Prix, LaCrosse). So, Buick may have a RWD LaCrosse (said to be the Invicta), which may be larger than the FWD LaCrosse. I doubt the Lucerne or DTS or LaCrosse will ever see 2009 much less 2010 in their current architectures. Both cars were majors but heavily kept the old architectures. While they may not be profitable over their lifetimes due to lower than expected volumes (to be seen) they were meant to be short term models. I don't see any changes coming for the Lucerne's engine lineup anytime soon. The 3800 will remain available until the 2009 model year. Assuming that the Lucerne is not replaced at that point, some replacement V6 is likely. My guess is that if a RWD sedan goes into production for Buick, it will replace the Lucerne.
