The Rise and Fall of an Automotive Giant - GM
Written by: sgtdevlinusmc on May 6, 2009 3:30:39 PM
Well, here I sit boken hearted. I have just been asked to leave my dealer's service area by the owner of the dealership because I was "haranguing" his employees. What I was doing was asking for them to fix the vibration in my car - a 2007 Buick Lucerne CXS, no more and no less. Well, evidently I was way out of bounds with my request which was for them to ... I didn't notice a problem. It vibrates that way because it's a V8 and probably needs a less restrictive exhaust. I don't drive at 1500rpm, ever, though. That's lugging the engine and isn't good for it.

Jimmy you have been had just as I was. I bought an 07 Lucerne CXS (a demo) with 6000 miles on it. From the get go I noticed a vibrating/rumble at various speeds. I took it back to the dealer around 8 or 9 times. They rotated and balanced the wheels; didn't help. Took it back again and they did the same thing again; same result. Took it back again and ... 2009 Buick Lucerne

I Bought a 2009 Buick Lucerne that had 7000 mi. on it after a few days I noticed a low rumble from the rear at about 58 to 65 mph and now at lower speeds. I took it back to the dealer and they put a complete new exhaust system on it. It seemed to help until I got it home. It's still there. They can't figure it out. It's more like ... Read More

Humming from fuel pump
Written by: bajan1 on Mar 24, 2009 10:50:41 PM
After a very long drive in my 2009 Buick Lucerne, which has 10,000 miles, it had a very loud humming noise from the trunk, the source of which was later identified as the fuel pump. Two mechanics listened to the humming, which by then was much quieter since it is much reduced in city driving, but both have no previous experience with this condition. One said that the fuel pump is ... Read More

The Buick Lucerne CX and CXL now come standard with a more powerful & efficient 3.9L, replacing the 3.8 Nope... still not what should be in the "flagship" Buick. As has been said many times... there are better choices. As for the new Max.. I didn't drive one but did check it out and sat in it. The interior is very nice, however I am not sure that it fits into ... Read More

This forum has gotten QUIET! A few questions to bring back the conversation... Let's discuss changes available for 2009 on these vehicles. I know the Chrysler models got a bump in V8 power. What else? Has Hyundai changed the Azera at all since it came out? The Buick Lucerne CX and CXL now come standard with a more powerful & efficient 3.9L, replacing the 3.8L motor. Would that change your mind ... Read More

Try $1200 or less to replace a 4 speed transmission in a Buick(or other GM with one). Yes, the new GM 5-6 speed models are also similarly pricey, so the smart money is on the older 4 speed design. That's some serious money saved, and last I checked, they are very reliable as all of the bugs have been worked out. It's not a fun car. But it's virtually as reliable ... Read More

There is no difference between under $3500 and $3500 to $4000. For the additional $1K potential tranny cost in the event of a catastrophic failure in 10 year I'd rather be driving a BMW than a Buick.

IMO its not that big of an improvement. The MPG should be similar, (using the Impala's #s) however the highway # comes with the use of cylinder deactivation. The 3.9 is also a dated OHV design, at least it has VVT. Like joe97 said GMs 3.6 is the better option here, however, I read somewhere that the 3.6 is not setup to be installed where the Lucerne is being built. IMO ... Read More

Evidently Buick is dropping the 3.8 liter engine in favor of the 3.9 liter as the base V6 engine for the 2009 Lucerne. Any comments? Does this make the V6 Lucerne a more viable option, with the roughly 30 hp improvement over the 3.8?

neither G8 or Genesys are included here for discussion by our hosts. Alexstore - think there are some limits on the no. of cars that can be shown to be part of the group. The G8 was specifically included, and later removed - I guess becuase it wasn't available yet. That is no longer the case - there would seem to be no reason that the G8 shouldn't be fair game ... Ah, I know which one you were talking about, it's the Chinese Buick LaCrosse, not Lucerne. The new Chinese Buick Park Avenue is the rebadged Holden Commodore. Actually currently Buick is (guys, if you are holding a cup of coffee in your hand right now, put it down...) the number one selling import brand in the Chinese market. "If you think about it - what 'American' brand symbolizes quality - Cadillac,Lincoln/Mercury, Buick (?) " Lincoln and Mercury are near death. At least Buick and Cadillac show some signs of life with the Enclave and CTS. You are right all the domestics have improved, however, they are still not able to sell without large rebates or 0% financing. The other day there was a commercial for a $3500 rebate on ... Read More

actually what I was thinking of is a Buick Lucerne apparently built over there - with a 4 cylinder engine! And I thought it needed some help with that vintage V6! Hasn't GM already started to open Buick plants in China and also built Lucerne/Lacrosse knockoffs in Shanghai? Think the Park Avenue is still available over there as well - that being a Holden. FWIU, Buick is THE car to own ... Read More
