2013 New York Auto Show

What Is It?
2014 Toyota Highlander

What's Special About It?
This latest generation of the Toyota Highlander is perhaps the least offensive SUV ever designed. It doesn't bring any Wow! to the party and that, friends, is exactly what this one is for.

Like the outgoing model, the 2014 Toyota Highlander can seat seven passengers. Unlike the current model, equip it correctly and the 2014 Toyota Highlander can seat eight passengers. Storage in the rear, too, has been increased; the 2014 Highlander has 34 percent more cargo volume behind the third row. These are the benefits of growing up. And grow it has. The 2014 Highlander is 3 inches longer than the SUV it replaces.

Again, like last time around, the 2014 Highlander is available with three powertrain options. There's a base 187-horsepower four-cylinder displacing 2.7 liters and a 270-hp 3.5-liter V6. Both of these are hooked up to a new-for-2014 six-speed automatic transmission (the last-gen car had a five-speed auto), which will help the Highlander return better fuel economy. The final powertrain option is the Highlander Hybrid, which attaches an electric motor-generator to the 3.5-liter V6. The total output of this configuration is 280 hp. Official fuel economy figures have not been released.

The new, larger Highlander also gets a new, high-quality interior featuring Toyota's Entune multimedia system, a standard 6.1-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, an optional 8-inch screen with Entune App Suite and an available rear-seat entertainment package.

Of course, being a family-focused SUV, the 2014 Highlander is available with all of the safety nets you'd want: standard back-up camera, hill-start control, parking sonar, blind spot monitoring, lane departure alert, rear cross traffic warning and a pre-collision system.

The 2014 Toyota Highlander goes on sale next year.

Not very exciting, but it is a toyota what do you expect, front end is hideous and the interior is to choppy, looks like a minivan from the back..

Somebody(s) at Toyota seriously didn't give half a crap. "Lets rip off Infinity (front) and Nissan (back) and call it a day for design" Shame since the FR-S and tC look decent. Along with the Prius, FJ, Rav4, Land Cruiser, etc.

  • Should I like Highlander 2014 than Mazda CX-9 ?
