FRANKFURT, Germany — The Jaguar C-X17, the British brand's long-awaited SUV, is being teased ahead of a debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Jaguar has released a single teaser image of the C-X17. The SUV will be revealed on September 9.

The image clearly shows a five-door crossover, a vehicle type that Jaguar is known to have been working on for some time. Development mules for a vehicle of this kind have recently been seen testing near the company's test center in England.

The company describes the C-X17 "as a design study to introduce Jaguar's new, highly advanced, modular aluminum architecture."

Jaguar's brief release adds that the concept "illustrates the diversity of vehicles that could be produced using this architecture, which underpins the innovative future of the Jaguar brand."

Edmunds says: Jaguar seems keener to promote its new modular aluminum architecture than the possibility of a long overdue crossover, but the launch of an SUV from this storied British brand now looks certain.
