Good evening Folks and happy new year to you all. I am a new comer. I am very close/about to buy an Audi A8L 2004 with 65K miles on it, very clean and nice! I Never owned an Audi before. Currently drive a BMW 530i 2001 and BMW 330ci 2001 Convertible. In order to buy this Audi I have to sell my BMW 530i. In one hand I have very hard ... Read More
Sword down for a moment. In reading the LS board I sense that some have decided to leave us again because there hasn't been enough praise of the new LS. In fairness, the review in which one compares the LS460L to the E63 AMG is bunk and not at all fair to the LS460L. Car and Driver's comparo while having some curious points concerning weight and having used a pre-production LS460L, ... Read More
Performance. The LexIthinkIcans can rant all you want about a 3 year old test that the LS "won", but if the S500 was there, it would've been an entirely different playing field. True, both the A8 and S is a step behind the 7 in the adhesion department, but the Lexus is, well, Park Avenue-esque in the turns(don't want to sound "bad"-but it is). So strange that all of sudden MB,BMW, ... Read More
1. I didn't call the A8 a loser, but I said "I can see how someone would call it a Loser" There is a difference. The LS might be better than all the premium sedans you can name, but the A8, to me, is the MOST desirable! 2. My point is getting twisted quickly, and often. As I've said several times before, there is more than one way to be a ... Read More
I just wanted to chime in with my great experience with my '06 XJ Super V8. I am not a die hard Jaguar fan, have not dreamed about owning a Jag all my life. I did not intend to buy a Jaguar this time around. But having done so, I am really happy. Here is my story. I had owned a two Cadillac Eldorado STS from 1995 through 2000. I enjoyed ... Read More
My Audi W-12 has been mechanically flawless(save the headlamp issue) throughout this first 3200 miles. The car is as solid as vault, and I get better than expected mileage from a car with 12 cylinders and 450hp. As to the reliabililty issues from Consumer Reports, one sentence: Don't believe everything you read. Case and point: I owned a '98 Lexus LS400, which at the time was supposed to be the reliablilty ... Read More
to the States this past Friday and I took my W-12 and blasted to the Hamptons Saturday. Upon my arrival at my buddy's house, there appeared what looked like an '07 S550. Quite naturally I got excited as this would be my first S550 I've seen in the States. It was a gorgeous pearlescent white on oak color combo. Once I got over my intitial infactuation with the car, I entered ... Read More
Having the Maybach and S-Class virtually share taillights, or the C-Class and S-Class of a generation ago, is not a good thing, as it says cost-cutting to the trained eye. Yeah this is a good example. Now if this were true, why doesn't it mean the same thing for Lexus? Lexus is doing the same thing with design from model to model. Anyway, the cars you mention don't have the exact ... Read More
Or drop MSRP's which is starting to look inevitable. Auditors will only let you BS them on future retention values for so long. Sooner or later they will make you take the cost provision up front on sale rather than at lease end. Then you get a double whammy - the car sold years earlier and the car being sold now (sorry I'm a CFO and ex-auditor by trade). They've actually ... Read More
No - not if Lexus gave it a S8 like bumpy ride. The fact that 200 of them sold tells you there was virtually no one who wanted the car. Let's see if Audi can sell 200 V12's in a year. Cars that sell that low in volume would be dismissed as aberrations and not part of a standard list of offerings by many who keep track of records. They would ... Read More
I don't get it when you talk about all these engines and platform options. MB's S had two engines in the affordable range for their base cars - a 275HP and a 303 HP when I shopped in 2001. The LS had one engine, the 290HP. The A8 had one engine, a 310 HP and they had just discontinued the SWB edition because they sold less than 500 of these in ... Read More
I found the following information on used car values from Autotrader on actual selling prices for 2001 model year A6 4.2 vs. 2001 LS430. 2001 LS430 1)44K miles selling for $37K 2)49K miles selling for $36K 2001 A6 4.2 Quattro 40K miles selling for $29K. So, I have come to 2 conclusions: 1) Audi's do not sell for anywhere near sticker, except for maybe the A8, and specialty products such as ... Read More
Well you know what I think of the A8 W12's new grille. I think it fits perfectly. Gives the car real presence. Mercedes and Bruno Sacco are done from everything I've read. He is apparently still "close" (whatever that means) to the company but he isn't running the design studios. Oh well, not even Mercedes, BMW or Audi can make a gorgeous car every time. They used too, but not anymore. ... Read More
I'll check them out. How do you screw up a car that good looking and why mess with it so much anyway?? By the time its finished with its new model run it will be too late for Bruno to come out of retirement and rescue it. Its a great looking car that, at times I think the Audi tops. But that's because the A8 maintained more of the classic big ... Read More
The CL, SL, and S-Class in particular make even their German competition from BMW and Audi look like bargains, on paper. A loaded A8 or 745Li, and I mean loaded each costs about 80K, right where the S500 starts, yet Mercedes isn't at a sales disadvantage compared to a 55-71K Lexus model? Come on now. Mercedes would sell a ton more cars if they were cheaper. Think about Lexus dropping the ... Read More
Hello. I just came back to Town Hall, as I am in the market for a new car in the upscale sedan class. I am considering the 2004 Audi A8, and the 2004 Jaguar XJ8 at this point. I think that I have eliminated the 745i and MB E500...although I am still in my formative stages of this decision. I am one of the few folks that currently owns a 2002 ... Read More
Paul-I also have a Lexus, LS430 Custom 2001, but my previous car was a 1998 Audi A8. How do you compare the new A8 to the Lexus.
Been away for a while, well fear not I'm back. The Detroit Show was a true delight. I have never seen so much luxury and power on display. The stars of the show were the Cadillac Sixteen, Maybach 62 and Rolls-Royce Phantom. I missed my chance to sit in the Rolls by "that much" This is huge and elongated car. The interior is much nicer in person than it is in ... Read More
"In 2001, Audi sold just 163 A8's in Canada while Mercedes sold 1,218 S-Class models, Jaguar 498 XJ sedans, BMW 466 7-Series models, and Lexus 455 LS430's. Even the terminally-trailing Infiniti Q45 (which admittedly is new for 2002) sold 190 units." Greg Wilson. Now I know that Canada is very small in population compared to the U.S., but was this the case here as well? Anyone have the numbers?
I am driving an A6 quattro 2.8 and my lease is going to be terminated by September 2001. I did not have any problems with the car, but I am seriously considering an A8 L. Does anyone have any input on what kind of discount I should expect? I have been following manufacturer rebates but I don't see any thing happening. When I purchased my A6 a factory rebate was in ... I purchased a 2000 A8 from a friend loaded with every option including the phone. He got a 2001 S500 sport (and hates that he sold me his A8). I love his Star Tac phone feature(and Nav system which is also in my wife's ML430) and have checked with everyone about upgrading or changing the phone. According to my Audi dealer (Champion Motors) the 2002/3 will have a digital phone system. ... Read More
Sorry this is late jwilkerson. Availability for 2001 A8L is upon us. Mine arrived at dock over weekend, delivery next week. On resale. Like most high end luxuries (w/possible exclusion of MBs other than S500), value drops off pretty quick. I am leasing (Company car...) to combat the gamble. Audi seems to be subsidizing the lease numbers, although they are up a bit on the 2001 (interest rate bump...). The A8L ... Read More
i dont know what the supply of A8Ls are in the midwest, but in houston, A8s are not in demand, and the you will be able to pay close to invoice if you get the regular length, but the long wheelbase is probably in higher demand, since it is brand new. perhaps 7% over sticker, vs 4%. i dont know anything about the phone but the longer warranty and scheduled servicing are ... the 2001 audis will have the 4 year warranty as well as scheduled servicing. if the warranty concerns you that much, go for the next year. i think the alcantara is a suede that goes on the roof and doors, not sure if it goes under the leather covered surfaces or replaces them. the A8 is a great car, even better in long form. be sure to check out the big ... If they'd bring the S8 (twin turbo Quattro A8) to the US, the 2001 BMW M5 would be quickly forgotten. The S8 (Euro version) is an amazing car. You can see it in action in "Ronin" starring Robert De Niro. Cheers!
I am so sick of the A8! I spent way too much time in the A8L at the auto show and it just makes me sick! I have been wanting an A8 for 3 years and no one has given me one yet. Seriously, this is one great car. It really fits me like a tailored suit. It's not too big, and not too small, it's just right. The materials, seats, ... Read More
I suspect your car drives just the way it did when you test drove it. If you didn't like it then you shouldn't have bought it. This car has two big things working against it that affect it's acceleration, the Quattro system and the automatic transmission which interfaces with your foot through a Bosch drive by wire system. It's a compromise, you want your neck to snap, buy a RWD manual ... Read More
The A8 is a different animal from the big Benzes and BMWs of the world. When it originally came here it was a breath of fresh air because of it's then light weight construction compared to the S-Class at the time. It was a technology leader at the time. The new S has passed it most areas, so it may seem old to some now. I don't expect Audi to let ... Read More
Any A8 fans/owners going to go for the LWB version? Now all Audi needs is the lwb version with the W12 engine. Maybe for 2001? M
