Greetings to the Luxury Performance Sedan Forum buffs: The fall of 2004 was a magical time for Acura RL and a forum like none since, Except for maybe this one. But it's good to come back into Edmunds on occasion and see what's new on the street! I still have the 2005 and just turned 102,000 miles. For me Edmunds provided a wonderful environment to talk cars, get educated on them ... Read More
(I'll preface this post by saying that this Forum is very stagnant and I don't know if Mark will even see this post. But the RLX is coming out in a few weeks and I did not see an RLX forum in Edmunds but I did find Mark's old post!) Mark, Your Post was interesting to me because First, I recognized your name right away from years ago when the 2005 ... Read More
We bought a 2008 RL used in March 2011 with 18,700 miles on it from an Acura dealer in Tucson, AZ for $26,000. It was not certified - we got an extended warranty. I have a 2005 Acura TL with 154k miles on it and I bought new floor mats at Acura of Tempe at about 100k miles. I noticed they sold RL floor mats for really any year so you may want to give them a call as they have a nice selection. My car is black with parchment interior and yes, the floor mats get dirty quick here in Phoenix.
5 years and 50,000 miles later and you are complaining about a rattle that Acura "seems not to want to address"? And what is so-so mileage around town, and pretty good on the road? My son and I (2005 and 2008 RLs) get 20-22 around NYC and 29-30 on the road. This with a 300 HP V6 driving an AWD drivetrain and a 4000+ pound car? Excellent in my book. If ... Read More

In 2005 this forum was one of the best reads on Edmunds. I see Lexusguy and MarkCincinnati still contribute and that's a good thing. Just wanted to mention that my 2005 RL has been a great ride. Hopefully a year from now the 2012 RL Flagship gets Acura back into the frey with something special to talk about. Enjoy the summer. JJAcura
I do not have any paint peeling, but the tailpipe extensions were redesigned in 2006 and our dealer replaced them with the new ones on our 2005 RL at no charge approximately 2 years ago. I'm still contemplating of getting a used Acura RL (2005/2006). For those of you with high mileage (60K and above), what repairs/maintenance have you done so far? I'm a bit worried of the long term reliability of the 2005/2006 Acura RL. Please respond. We need to make this forum active :) Thanks.

Thanks, JJ, good to see you too. I too am still very happy with my 2005 RL and am awaiting the next generation, hopefully next year, before I make my next move. I must say, it'll have to be pretty good to keep me in the Acura family.
Interesting to note how quiet the various Acura RL forums are these days. This was the only forum that has recent posts. JJACURA and I have been good friends since the early Forum days in 2004. The excitment that attended the yet unknown 2005 RL was at fever pitch. We Acura buffs waited nine years for a model change, and our excitement could barely be contained. I hope that we can resurrect that enthusiasm while waiting for what has been described to be a real 'flagship' RL. George

Another interesting thing is that if you look on eBay, there are loads of barely used RLs and GS300s and 430s at huge discounts. In stark contrast to that, there are maybe 2 or 3 of the new Ms on eBay at any one time, and they dont have the same heavy discounts. I dont think Acura will be able to beat Audi in sales again, at least not until they ... Read More
Hi there, I have a 2005 RL and it needs its 1st service B (oil change & tire rotation). I asked around, most Acura dealers quote me for $150. Is this a fair price? can we take the RL to a non-dealer service place? Any recommended mechanics? I live in San Jose, CA. Thanks!
ajohn, Bought the car between Christmas and New Year. Guess the dealer needed to get sales up for 2005. Dealer is Piazza Acura located in Ardmore, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia.
Sorry to hear you're having these many problems and no one to attend to them. Let me be frank - I don't own any stocks of Honda Motors nor any member of my family works for them. So I have no reason to defend them. But the facts have to be presented as they are. I own 2 Honda products: 1. 1998 Accord 4 cylinders with 130,000 miles. It is such ... Read More

I purchased an 06 RL in late December 2005. Loved the car for the first 2900 miles. Then it started to drag. Ran sluggish. Sounded "throaty". Check engine light came on, check emissions light, and check sh-awd light. Take it in, am told they cleared the codes, and since they didn't come back on, my car is fine. They determined that the codes were "thrown" because the car thought the engine ... Read More
This is definitely surprising and not like my experience in northern nj. First, I don't think Acura, as a brand, stands for this. So, if you haven't already, you should write as well as call Acura's regional customer service. Your opinion MAY count. Recently, there was an issue with my post-service survey, surprisingly, a few minutes after the survey call, I got a call from the service manages asking why I ... Read More
I'm sorry that your experience at Rallye was so disappointing. It's true that I bought all of my Acuras there for the past eleven years, and that I have established a relationship with them, but knowing Michael, the Service Manager, I can't imagine him behaving in this manner or precluding people who aren't Rallye customers. I suggest that you call and ask for him personally and explain your problem. Be forthright. ... Read More
Acura doesn't seem to look after its customers or supervise the dealers very closely. Ours is pleasant but performs extra services without consent, and gets offended when payment is refused. I'm very happy with my Acura, but I won’t buy another because of the regrettable dealer experience.
That is so surprising, for two reasons. First, at many dealerships, service and repair is a great profit center. Second, if they provide good service to someone who didn't buy there, it encourages them to buy there the next time. That's how my dealership got me as a loyal customer. I bought my first Acura elsewhere because I got a good deal, but I took it to this dealership for service ... Read More
Moving to the north shore of Long Island, NY. I thought I would start using the dealer near by. I called Rallye Acura, Roslyn, NY -- for an appointment for routine service. Simple enough? Nope! I thought it kind of strange when the first question was "Did you buy it here?" They asked for my name/number and said they would call me back. (Again, a little strange!) No call ... I ... Read More
My ignition switch in my 2005 RL refuses to turn on intermittently. The dashboard lights comes on but the switch refuses to move further. After multiple attempts, it finally turns over. I have had it in to Acura service but since it is intermittent, they have not been able to find anything. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
That's a good question, birdbird. You should be able to add just about any dealer-installed option to your car that you want. Having said this, it can be expensive to add options like the one that you mentioned to leases because these items usually cannot be residualized. This means that you will have to pay for their entire cost over the course of your lease. Let's say that you are leasing ... Read More
I have the same problem with my 05 RL. The noise kicked in at 30mph and the dealer also replace the propeller shaft but the problem still continues at higher speeds. Its in the shop as I speak and they are trying to figure it out. They are being helpful but it would appear that they have never encountered the problem before...guess they are not paying attention. Did you ever get ... Read More
I've been going back and forth with my Acura dealership regarding the "noise". At this point they have replaced the drive shaft assembly (took care of the problem at 30mph but now its at 40+). They appear baffled and keep talking to the "tech line". Needless to say I'm frustrated. Did you finally get your issue resolved? If so how?
I purchased my 2005 RL new in January, 2005. Lakeshore Silver. Now have 13,500 miles. (Relatively low because I alternate between the RL and a MINI Cooper S.) My car has been trouble free. Power windows "acted up" once and the dealer told me how to correct it. TSBs have been performed as needed. Just installed the 18" wheels with summer performance tires. Awesome look.....and handling. I am pleased with the ... Read More
Hi Car_man: Do dealers or Honda Finance have any problem with letting you incorporate into the least an accessory like their rear view camera? I was thinking that if it needs to be screwed in or something that they might not want to do it cause it might hurt resale potential. Can you tell me what to expect on that? Also, at the Acura web site they now have both the ... Read More
Hello zarethustra. Here is the information that you are looking for. If you were to lease a 2005 Acura RL through Honda Finance right now for 36 months with 15,000 miles per year, its buy rate lease money factor and residual value should be .00260 and 54%, respectively. The numbers for an otherwise identical 39 month lease should be .00260 and 48%. If you were to lease this car with only ... Read More
In the US, BMW's 5 outsells Audi's A6 by about 3 to 1. Ohio's largest BMW dealer which may not translate nationally, claims 40% of the 5's sold are X-drive models and now some 15% of the 3's (and growing) are likewise. In the past year, it was almost not even possible to buy an A6 in the US that was 2WD. All of the A6's (virtually all) were AWD in ... Read More
