Re: Acura Legend repair costs [lhy]

Hi, I have not had to pay any excessive repair bills on my 1992 Legend, just normal maintenance bills, however I only have approx. 50,000 total miles since new. It is garaged all the time. Only driven on nice days. It is a real driver. I am always amazed how far advanced in design and performance the 1992 Acura was compared to the US built cars.

I have a '92 coupe LS. I bought it seven years ago with ~184,000 miles. It now has ~292,000 miles and is getting a bit long in the tooth. I get 25 mpg city/highway, only because I pretty much concentrate on driving for mileage. The main issue with all Acuras as far as appearance goes, is the leather, which almost uniformly gives out around 100,000. I saw an '88 the other ... Read More

I have a 1988 Legend with 225k miles. I have always kept up with the yearly maintenance and oil change schedule and with the exception of the parts that wear out with mileage and age (tires, cv joints, water pump, belts, etc) I cannot say I have had reliability problems with the car. After 20 years, everything that was factory installed still works on the car. I drive it 70 miles ... Read More

Fair price for a nice 92 LS?
Written by: pmorrisonfl on Nov 21, 2005 7:31:03 PM
Delray Acura has a 1992 Legend Sedan with 52000 miles up for auction on eBay, and for sale at the dealership. I drove it today, it's nice! It's one owner, bought 13 years ago, maintained at the dealer, just traded in. I think it's as nice a '92 Legend LS sedan as you're likely to run in to. They're asking 8,900 on the price tag, but the eBay reserve is lower... ... Read More

Clutch Sinks to Floor and Does not Return

Clutch pedal sinks to floor and has no pressure to return to its normal postion. Has anyone had a similar problem? What should be done? My 1992 Acura Legend Coupe v6 engine with 5-speed manual transmission Any clues appreciated. TIA. PS. The mechanic wants to change clutch slate and master. He said "hydralic part has slow internal leak and needs to be changed." It is normal wear and tear of the ... Read More

Changing the timing belt is not something you want to try as your first repair attempt. It takes a few hours even for a skilled mechanic and is a real pain in the rear. That is one of the few procedures I pay to have done on my '90 Accord and the process is similar on the Legends I believe. Doing the water pump at the same time of the timing ... Read More

Thanks for the update, but I think its only water pump, because it has a new radiator, a new thermostat, there are no leaks anywhere, the car is dry as sahara desert around the engine and under. On this note I wish I had a manual how to change the water pump and timing belt since I will have to remove it to change the water pump. Also I should change ... Read More

Sure you have a choice, I would take it to another independent mechanic and have them check the water pump for proper operation. In addition, they should be looking for leaks in the cooling system while under pressure. This is not too difficult, they should be able to do most of it quite easily with a lift. good luck

Here is a page with some possible causes and how to go about checking them. It sounds like your coolant flow is either interrupted or leaking though. Leaving the radiator cap open and letting the engine run to bubble out all the air in the system should work to remove most (if not all) air in the system. Then it's just a matter of figuring out whether your car is leaking ... Read More

I have stumbled across a 1992 Acura Legend Coupe LS. 90,000 miles, 5 speed, loaded, black on black. Seller has stated that the timing belt/water pump has not been done, Throttle Body has been replaced 3 times (CEL on), and ABS light is also on. As mentioned before, I have two Legends, a 1991 with 120K and a 1995 with 50K. I have had the 1991 for nearly eight years, and just bought the 1995. They are really excellent cars, that is why I searched for a 1995 instead of buying new. They just don't make anything that compares in my mind except possibly a $40000BMW but that is too much to pay for a car ... Read More

I just bought a 1991 Acura Legend with 109,000 miles. Not my first choice, but I know the owner and knew I could trust him when he told me the car's history. It runs fairly well, and my mechanic said I could expect to keep it until it has 150,000 or more miles; however, it's not free of certain minor problems (one engine light malfunctions; control button for one window is ...
