2014 Toyota Prius Plug-in
It has been a great car. It gets great mileage. Is comfortable to drive. The driver's view is pretty bad. It is hard to tell where the corners are. Look around in a parking lot. Most Priuses of this style have beat up bumpers - there is a reason for that.
The last annual state inspection cost a bundle (probably about half the value of the vehicle). New rotors, calipers, and pads all … around. Some rusted brake lines. Leaking exhaust at some gasket. It all added up to well over $2k. But no other expenses and the year is half over. This mud season the plastic shield under the right front fender got separated and half of the shield on the left side tore off. The Prius does not have muddy road clearance. I can replace the plastic with after market ones fairly cheaply. The dealer charges about five or six times the cost of DIY and it doesn't take much time or effort to replace them. But it will still cost about $100. Because of Vermont's s draconian inspection rules the rocker panels of any Prius over 10 years old will condemn it to junk. We lost both our 2010 and 2014 PHEV in the next round of annual inspections after the rules changed. They were both in great operating condition and would go many more miles safely, but not allowed to in VT.
