A great compromise

2024 Toyota Grand Highlander
It's been a great car so far (I have roughly 1500 miles on it). It rides much more smoothly than my previous car (a 4th gen 4Runner). I doubt it's going to be as reliable as than good ole V6 though. If you don't care about true offroading and you just drive down some dirt and gravel roads or are on paved roads most the time, this is a much better choice than a 4Runner or Sequoia. If you … need a 3rd row, it's really the only good option from Toyota. It's comfortable, and the interior was well-thought out. It's a good balance between luxury and price as well. The keyless entry, the 360 cameras (which make parking in tight spaces super easy), and panoramic moon roof are all worth it.
The things I don't like are the 4 cylinder engine (I'd prefer a V8, though I know that won't meet emission standards), the auto start stop (though I will say I've gotten used to it by slightly raising my foot off the brake so it'll cut back on right before I go), the mom-ish look, the lack of an auto-lock feature when you walk away, and the lack of extension of the steering wheel (I'm also tall, so this may not matter for most people). The hood also can shimmy some at high speeds, but it's only visual (no noise), and it really doesn't bother me. In fact, none of these "bad" things are things that bother me day to day. There's no buyer's remorse here. I'd buy it again if I had to make the choice again today.
