2024 Lexus TX
Coming from an XC90 PHEV, the TX550h+ sacrifices a miniscule amount of horsepower for an engine that doesn't break a sweat delivering a very similar fast acceleration. Smooth and comfortable ride, with no hesitation in power. It wins in leg room and cargo space too - which is the entire reason people buying 3 row SUVs are shopping for them. Plus the ventilated captains chairs in the … back means no teens fighting over who gets to ride in the front. The real world actual gas mileage is about 5-8mpg better than the XC90 too - even when the batteries are depleted, which is interesting since the gas engine is a V6 rather than the turbocharged 4 cylinder the xc90 sports. I cross shopped the XC90, X7, Yukon, CX90, & MDX Type S. The TX was the all around best mix of functionality, comfort, performance, luxury, & anticipated reliability.
It's the first model year so there are a couple of things I'd love to see come in the future - where's the panoramic sunroof??? and the interior ambient lighting is a bit weak for my taste. The biggest question I have though is on the actual gas tank size - it seems smaller than the specs state and the range the car estimates after a fill up is about 360mi, not the 450 claimed in the article. I've only driven about 300 miles in it so far, so I'll be following up with Lexus if that doesn't improve over the next few weeks. 360 isn't terrible, it's just significantly less than the over 400 claimed here.
