2025 Nissan Murano Review
Overview

Nissan has redesigned its Murano for 2025. The new model has fresh-looking styling and some notable updates. There's a stylish cabin design, the addition of Nissan's latest infotainment and technology features, and a new engine under the hood. We're not really sure why Nissan changed it up — the new turbocharged four-cylinder is similar to last year's V6 in acceleration and fuel economy — but this two-row SUV still has enough get-up-and-go to hustle it up to highway speeds without too much trouble. The Murano continues to occupy an unusual SUV niche, however. It's more expensive than the Rogue in Nissan's lineup and that's less about size (it's actually smaller in some key areas) and more about its elevated design, higher-quality cabin materials and greater performance.
Edmunds spotlight: All-new yet old-school
If you bought an SUV back in the 1990s, there's a very good chance it was a two-row midsize model. The popularity of these vehicles started the SUV trend, while car-based crossover models like the original Murano increased the SUV's status as America's go-to family vehicle. Today, though, the Murano is one of only a few two-row midsize models — and they're not especially popular. Part of that is because compact models, such as Nissan's own Rogue, have become so spacious in recent years that there's little reason to buy a midsize. As such, the Murano is positioned as a premium pick to justify its elevated price. There's logic to that, but that price also puts the Murano up against various three-row midsize models as well as two-row luxury models.
Competitors to consider
The Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe are similar in price, feature content and available performance, but they manage to squeeze in a third row (and extra cargo space) without ballooning to extreme family hauler proportions. The Chevrolet Blazer is similar to the Murano in terms of its body style and seat count, as well as its emphasis on style. The new Honda Passport is another five-passenger midsize model, but it is much more spacious and has adopted a more off-roading vibe for its latest generation. Finally, luxury models like the Acura RDX, Lexus NX and Lincoln Corsair provide comparable size and equipment for not that much more money.
Which Murano trim does Edmunds recommend?
We would recommend the Murano SV. Sure, it's the base trim but it comes well equipped and gives you the best value of the lineup. The SL and Platinum have some desirable upgrades, but considering their higher price, you might want to consider a luxury SUV instead.

2025 Nissan Murano Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
Bought the 2025 Nissan Murano Platinum in April. Lane detection sensor failed & had to be replaced. Rain sensor now doesn't work (may never have), dealer says wind shield has to be replaced, but is on back order with no estimated delivery. Numerous intermittent issues that come & go. Cannot be pinpointed as they just pop up & then don't reappear until vehicle decides to do it again. … Dealer has no clue how to address. Most likely these are software bugs in need of an update. Here is a partial list:
* Driver side mirror goes down backing up, but fails to return to proper setting.
* Rear camera is blank when backing up
* Screen behind steering wheel sometimes shows "audio system muted" when it is playing fine, or no audio source displayed (just blank), etc. We wonder what will show every time we get into vehicle
*Seat in proper position based on memory seat setting. Turn off car. Seat should go backward to facilitate exit. Instead it goes forward making it hard to exit. Next time works fine.
Would be great to get some feedback if others are experiencing these same issues or others to help determine if these are universal problems or unique to my vehicle.
Confusing tech

2025 Nissan Murano Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
I’ve had the Platinum model about a month, and until last week I loved most every aspect. The tech is not intuitive, but I feel in time I can learn most of the features. It seems most new cars have this frustrating problem. Last week as I was driving a warning light popped up which I couldn’t interpret. When I arrived at home a few minutes later I parked in the garage to unload. I went … back out a few minutes later to see what the warning icon couldn have indicated. The car would not start—totally dead. After a few hours I tried again, and it started with no warning lights. The owner’s manual was not helpful. So, yesterday I was driving and three warnings came on. I was able to drive to the dealership.
My concern was that they couldn’t take it in to diagnose or repair the problem for a week or ten days because lack of service workers. So now do I drive and get stranded or stay trapped at home for fear of driving? I have no other vehicle. I am upset with the dealership here in Denison TX as much as with the car.
UPDATE: After a confrontational meeting at the dealer they finally admitted the part needed to fix my warning lights sensor is UNAVAILABLE. No idea when, or if, they can get it. I really love this car apart from this one issue, but it is a BIG issue. The ProPilot won’t work, so there is no cruise control, lane departure, steering assistance, etc that is activated with it.
Don’t even know if airbags will work. What’s with Nissan?
Check seat cooling seats

2025 Nissan Murano Platinum 4dr SUV AWD (2.0L 4cyl Turbo 9A)
After buying 2025 Nissan Murano, passenger seat ac working fine. Next day when cooling (high) seat on you can hear loud buzzing sound. Took vehicle in for warranty service, Nissan claims no issues. When I picked up vehicle, service rep showed me that noise is loud in high, but in medium and low settings sounds starts to fade. I tested driver side and no sound in high setting. Next day I … checked driver side cooling seat and had loud buzzing sound. Will re-address with Nissan. Also contacted and discussing issue with Nissan Consumer Rep.

At takeoff engine is really loud, sounds like a 5 speed changing gears and was told by Nissan that this is normal.
