Eastside Subaru
Dealership Sales Review
I was interested in purchasing a Subaru back in August/Sept. The dealership told me the only way to get the configuration I was interested in was to factory order it. After agreeing on a price, and a salesperson giving me an estimate for my trade-in after checking with the manager, I paid a deposit to the dealership and placed a factory order in Sept. So far, the experience had been great. I didn't get any proactive updates on status of order, but kept checking with them every few weeks. When the car finally showed up in November, I went to pick it up on a Sunday. The manager now offered significantly (30%) less for my trade-in. The manager then claimed he had never offered anything higher. His story changed a few minutes later to he had offered something slightly higher, but won't offer that any more "due to market conditions". (Really? 30% drop in two months on an unchanged car?) I was disappointed by not just the new numbers, but by the manager's changing story. He also made a few comments about how people were lining up to pay a lot more on my new car than he had previously agreed to--so if I was not interested in getting the new car, he was fine with it. All through this conversation, I was struck by how rude they came across as to me--after all, I was a customer spending over $25K on a new car from his dealership. They wanted a cashiers check for the new car. Since it was a Sunday, I asked if we could wait till the banks opened on Monday--so I could re-run the numbers and confirm it with the bank (given the new trade-in value), and get the dealership a cashier's check from the bank for the new total. Both the manager and the salesperson agreed to do so. Unambigously. On Monday morning, I contacted the dealership to finalise the cashier's check. I got a one-line response from the salesperson that they had sold my car to someone else. That's it, just a one liner. No explanations on why they sold it though they had agreed to wait for a couple of days. No explanation on why they sold it even though they STILL had my deposit for that specific car, and were well aware that I had waited for it for two months. No explanations on why they didn't have the courtesy to even call me before selling that car (or even after selling it, for that matter--instead of sending a one-liner). No apologies, and no offer to make up for it in anyway by offering a discount on anything else--nothing. I was pretty shocked by this experience. This was by far the worst customer service I've ever come across from anyone--car dealer or otherwise. The experience has sadly soured me on not just the dealership, but Subarus for life. The only bright side I can think of is that I am really enjoying the new non-Subaru vehicle that I bought last week.
