I bought my car with them and had it serviced for over four years, only to get very aggravated to continuously be overcharged and lied to. I actually had a very good experience purchasing my Jetta, but it seems as though I may have lucked out. Their service department at first seemed to be very friendly, although more expensive than taking it somewhere else. As my mileage increased, they always try to get you to have more things done than you really need. The last two times I have gone, they quoted me of some service and ended up charging me 50 to 100% more than the original quote. I have been hung up by them and treated as though I was an idiot, although I felt I knew more about my vehicle than they did. The first incident I went in for an oil change. It was suggested that I have some additional work done that would only cost me $90 more. Instead of paying under $200, I paid almost $350. I called afterwards to complain, as their paperwork asks for you to do if you are unsatisfied with the quality of their work or service. I was ignored. Then recently, I had my water pump replaced, in which the service sales person did not even know that the water pump broke because of the plastic fan within it that deteriorates overtime, a known issue of VW water pumps within Jettas (and I believe other models). The original quote to replace it was $950. Once I started to ask exactly what they would do (which did not include replacing the timing belt, something that needs to be replaced around 90,000 miles and my car had over 80,000, and could get done at the same time to save labor costs). I spoke to an independent mechanic who let me know everything that should be done, including the timing belt, with an estimated cost of labor and parts around $1000. The final quote from VW was $1450, $500 more than the original quote, which would have been higher if I had not told them that I would not pay a penny over that and expected all of these things to get done. Their reasoning for the 50% increase was the addition of changing the timing belt, an inexpensive part. The labor should not have been that much more considering it it is located in the same area as the water pump and would be accessible at that point. I was lied to by both the service salesman and the manager, I was hung up on, and when I went to get my car, they didn't even have the decency to apologize or look me in the eye. I will never take my care back there again. Do not get your car serviced with them at any cost.
