Mercedes-Benz of Smithtown
Dealership Service Review
The email below I sent twice to the manager of MB Smithtown service. I think is a disgrace for a large prestigious entity not to have the courtesy of at least answer my complaint. That tells me that they rather keep steeling from costumers that don't care ho much the service cost, than face the music and deal with an unhappy costumer. Just find a good service shop and do not take it to MB service. Never again , is not worth it. Dear Manager, I'd love to make this short, but I'm not sure if a can. Today, I had an issue with the vehicle start stop, and coincidentally I needed a service B. I ask my service counselor to find out how much would cost as I have Endurance insurance and wanted to know how much the repair will cost out of pocket. I told him, I know that the service B won't be cover, but because he needed to go back to me, I just waited for his call. After a couple of hours he told me that Endurance will only cover around half, because Mercedes-Benz charges more than what Endurance covers. Only then I ask, how much is the service B cost, he told me over $1000 (I don't remember the actual number he gave me, but was over $1000). So I said, forget it, I can't afford to pay 50% of the repair and the service, I'll pick up the car and I'll pay the diagnostic which he told me is $245. So I pay, walk outside, and noticed Ive been charged $1341.04... I run back to the service counselor and tell him why I was charged for the service, I specifically said I can't pay for it. He argued with me telling that he mention that the service cost $1300, but that is not true. When I was on the phone with him, I ask him how much was it, he did not know, he put me on hold for 2 minutes, and found out and told me will cost over $1000 (again don't remember the exact number he mention) , so immediately I said, I can't do it, is too much. Here is the thing, when I was at the office paying, I was sure I was paying only the diagnostic as I did know the cost, nothing else, he did not tell me what I was paying and gave me the paid invoice after it was paid (and no credit card receipt). This I what I call a legal scam, first what kind of oil change can cost $1300? what is a 500% profit? A glorified oil change I'd call it. But the fact that it was done without my consent is what really eats me. I was shocked to see that I was scammed into a glorified oil change. At this point not only that I'd Never take my car again to service, I'd make sure by writing reviews all over the internet (MB reviews, BBB, Yelp, and consumers report to start) , not to get scammed on services, to double and triple check what you paying, and better not to take the car to Mercedes Benz service, as they will do the service, forcing you to pay afterwards, as the service was done. I've never felt this bad, never got scammed from an entity that you supposed to trust. Sincerely Julio Yacub Update May 2025: I want to update the review that I left below. The assistant manager Of MB service contacted me and offer an apology for the misunderstanding. I appreciate that and offer them to review my original post. I still not sure why the assistant manager called and not the manager. I guess this incident was too small for him to address it. Anyway, I will update this review to a three star from my original one star. The email below I sent twice to the manager of MB Smithtown service.
