Honda of Tenafly
Dealership Sales Review
Everything was good until the sales guy offered me a deal that was pretty insulting and realized that they would not deal honestly - I walked out. I used to have my Honda Accord service there for convenience and stopped because they just got so expensive comparing to other places. But I decided to give him a try when I need to get a car for November to replace my Accord - and it was disappointing. We went twice - the first time to determine if the CrossTour or CRV was good for my family. Thanks to the sales guy, we decided that CRV had great value. The second time, the same sales guy was friendly and took us for a test drive on a 2011 CRV. We decided to work with him to figure a deal on lease. As per the internet advices, we talked about price, fees, and money factor. He gave me a pretty okay first offer on most of the variables - until I asked for the money factor. He was a bit surprised and called someone on the phone. It turned out he was giving me a .008 money factor... or close to 20% APR! It was pretty shocking that they use that as the starting point - perhaps they assumed that I have a 300 FICO score? In any case, I was a bit insulted and decided to hold on the deal negotiation until I figure if there was a special. Then, it turned out that there are special financing deal as well as a good "super-qualifying" lease rate of .00136 (around 3.5%) from Honda Finance. As result, I concluded that they were not serious in working a deal or just assume that I was stupid. In this age of internet, why they thought that they could pull this kind of trick? I have a MBA and work in the finance industry but it may be easier for me.. but those money factor / conversion were so easy to calculate that this dealership's approach was really sincere in negotiating. It is not the sales-guy, whom I actually like and willing to do business with him, but some other guys that did the calculation. Therefore, beware in dealing with this dealership. They will not be the cheapest in anything. Know your stuff before going - or they will screwed you over and really not serious in building a long term business relationship (even they really tried to have a good customer service appearance).
