Service and warranty work
Written by Service on 05/09/2018

Brought my 2016 Chrysler Town & Country for an oil change and warranty work. There are three issues that need attention. The first is the navigation system, it works intermittently, the technician couldn’t find anything wrong. The nav came on for about one minute after I left, so not fixed. The second is that at times the van starts hard and emits blue smoke when it does, it also has an exhaust smell when it is shut off, along with that the is about 2mpg less since I noticed the exhaust smell. Tech said everything is normal. The third issue is that when the van is parked after driving on a long trip, over 100 mile there is a very strong raw gas smell, I have to leave it parked outside overnight, especially with the gas water heater in the garage. The tech said this was normal, some valve releases fuel system pressure into the atmosphere. The service person, Chuck Greaves told me this happens to his camry all the time, he said he takes the gas cap off to let the pressure out before he parks in his garage. After decades of driving this is a new procedure I was not aware of. I reviewed the operating instruction for the van and could not find that particular instruction. Also, my son drives a Camry and he does not have to remove the gas cap and his car does not emit the raw gas smell. I also checked his camry’s Operating instruction and could not find that procedure either. So her I am, the prod owner of a 2016 Chrysler Town and Country with 34700 miles that huffs and puffs, stinks like exhaust, get poor fuel mileage, navigation works part time, and emits raw fuel vapors so bad after a long trip that you can not park in the garage. According to the service writer and certified technician this is all normal. Service date 5/8/18, invoice JECS17497.
