Bad Ad's. Bad Management.
Written by zandermill on 09/03/2008

So, I am shopping for a car and like most people I got the Sunday paper. Being a holiday weekend I didnt bother to start calling around until Tuesday to let the dealership have people on board. This last Sunday Liberty ran some ad's claiming to have certain vehicles in at 14-15k. When I arrived I was greeted by a friendly rep, let's call him Joe. So I told Joe about the ad, that I was a cash deal and if he had the car I wanted ( I had called and talked to Joe before driving over two hours to get to his location. I really wanted the car they had in the ad!) So after I introduced myself and said I had called about the 08 Impala's and Malibu's for 14k and 15k respectably, he took my ad to his manager and went to show me a Aveo. Now I looked at the car, and then back to Joe and asked "Joe, this isn't a Malibu, or a Impala, and this certainly doesn't have a V6 engine in it. (The big seller for me was the promise and lure of a V6 engine, I'm really bad on 4 cylinders) So he went back in and talked with his boss, who then showed me a Malibu 07 with 55k miles and said this is a deal we have here for 15k. I then said to him "Joe, I realize you have told me you are new, but I came here specifically for the car in your ad. Which you told me you had and made me drive all this way here." So he brings out a friend to help him out, the old buddy buddy routine. And his buddy "Mark" brings around a nice Impala because he finally gets the drift. I want an 08 under 30k miles. So the car he brings me is the base style 08 Impala LS. With a sticker showing 22k miles on it. Finally! I was getting somewhere. However as I sat in the driver seat after being assured multiple times this was the car for me, I notice the odometer reads 30k miles. Yet the sticker reads 22k miles. Okay. So they are lying about the mileage, I can still see if this could work. I do like the car so I go inside and talk with their used car manager. This guy is slick, and brings out all the other dealerships I had been to in my search for a car. (I had got approved through my credit union for financing) So I sit patiently and listen to his unique approach and that is basically badgering me into getting financing on the car through him - even though this should be a cash deal. Then he brings up the price. 18k for a car under a year old with 30k miles. And I again point at his ad which he had taken and threw in the garbage by the way! (Don't ever let go of your newspaper ad - these guys are vultures) And pointed out the ad again said 15k for 08 Impala's. Which he said never mentioned a type. My response was to him. So A base line Impala with no frills and no extra's is not what was put in the ad then what was? Only to be told that the ad didnt really hold any weight that was to bring me in. He then told me he would cut me a break and that if I financed through him at a 5.9% rate of interest he would cut me a break and sell me the car at 17k, instead of the ad price because my financing was a few interest points higher. However the base fact is - I have the money to pay the car off , I'm using financing to bring my credit up even higher, and after one year I'll want to pay the vehicle off. His way would cost me a net two thousand more in the end to pay off then the financing I had and the pricing I wanted for the car. So I walked, and you should too if you try to do business with these individuals, they run bad ad's to bring in business and try to fleece you when you get there. - Zand
