Quirk Chevrolet

I am a female in my 30s. I went shopping for a 2010 Chevy Malibu last Thursday night with one of my best friends who is also a female and the same age as me. My friend is very knowledgeable about cars because she has worked in the business for many years. However, we did not tell the salesman John that. In the beginning, our experience was pretty good. When we arrived to the dealership, John greeted us. We told him what I was looking for and he got the car that I was interested in so that I could test drive it. I fell in love with it and knew I was going to buy it. I had done all of my research before I walked in so I knew what to expect as far as what would be a fair price to pay. When I told John that I wanted to buy it, he was dancing around all of the important questions about the price. His price was extemely high for what I wanted to pay. We asked him about the rebates and incentives, he would not give us a straight answer. We knew that GM is offering $3,500 rebate on all 2010 Malibus. Basically he was quoting us the price of the sticker and not giving anything off. He was talking circles around us like we didn't know what we were talking about. Whenever we asked him a question, he would go back and forth to whoever he needed to talk to instead of negotiating with us. I thought it was very unprofessional. So I told him no about the car and we left. The next day, I got approved for my financing and knew what my rate would be. I called John to tell him that if he can give me the price I wanted, he would have a deal. However, I did not tell him I already had financing because I wanted to see what he would come back with. He called me back about a 1/2 hour later. Before he told me the price, he made it sound like he was doing me a favor on the price. He was way off. I said flat out no. He preceded to tell me why my price was unreasonable and that he just wanted to give me an education. I was a little insulted. I did not need to be educated because I already did my research. I just found the whole experience unpleasant. Needless to say, I will not be doing business with Qurk again.
