Dealership Sales Review
At the end of December, 2008 I purchased a 2009 Civic EX from Don Jacobs Honda in Lexington, KY. My initial queries were made through several online sites like Edmonds, and of the 3 Honda dealerships in my immediate area, Don Jacobs was by far the most responsive using this approach. My internet contact was a Mr. Greg Hines, who was very helpful, and although attentive, was in no way high pressure or annoying. I would fully endorse the concept of doing 90% of your new car buying through the internet before ever going to a dealership (even before test driving a car). The other piece of advice would be to make it a policy of not buying a car upon your first visit to a dealership, but rather simply test drive the various cars you have researched. I found this very helpful in both defining the vehicle I wanted and feeling comfortable with the price that I ultimately negotiated. When I eventually went back to the dealership to purchase my vehicle I knew what I wanted and what I wanted to pay. The beauty of the internet negotiations is that the sales people also knew I was armed with this information and they and did not attempt to negotiate around my bottom line. So it turned out to be a pleasant experience for both myself the salesmen I worked with. I was basically finished with the whole purchase easily within an hour after entering the dealership.
