Dealership Sales Review

I went through all the steps to pick a car and get price quotes from dealers. I received a few email quotes, and McCarthy Olathe Hyundai was the best price. We drove two hours to the dealership, and they wouldn't honor the email quote. They wanted $3,000 more than the email quote. The salesman couldn't explain it, and said the car I was wanting to buy was the same model and equipment, but his manager was only willing to sell at this higher price. We waited to talk to Jay, the sales manager, who told us they only had one car like this, and that his offer price was this new higher price. I said I wanted him to stand by their email quote, and he said he could sell the car for whatever price he wanted, that is why they put the disclaimer on the quote. The disclaimer says 'We reserve the right to modify this quote to correct arithmetic errors. Incentive and pricing programs are subject to change by Hyundai without notice. We will notify you promptly if any incentive or pricing programs or other terms change.'

McCarthy Olathe, is known for their bait and switch tactics. They often advertise the lowest prices, but when you call them, all you get is give me your name and number and I will go check the lot for that vehicle. They have a list of what cars have been sold. After they call you back they always say the car is sold or it is not available, but come on in and I will get you the lowest price. They are horrible, but it seems all the Hyundai dealerships are getting bad about this. They must be under a lot of pressure to sale a lot of cars. That would explain why they act more sleezy than other dealerships. McCarthy will probably stay at the top of the list for the Kansas City area, until they change their practice. I called them last week after seeing an ad in the paper and knew going into it that they would probably give me the run around. After 10 minutes on the phone with their new car sales person, they had no vehicle for the advertised price. I could not even get a price from them other than the sticker price. The sales women was insisting that I come in and let her try to get a better deal for me even though I live an hour away. She really thought I would drive out their for the invoice price on a 2011 vehicle. This dealership would be my last choice out of all in the Kansas City area

I agree with you! I had been shopping for a new Hyundai for months and wasn't sure which model would suit me best. After much research I went to McCarthy in Olathe where I had nearly the exact same HORRIBLE experience as you did! The same sales manager was the one who also told me that the quote I received had "mathematical errors" on it, as he pointed to a 'convenient' disclaimer that "mathematical errors" required that the price was actually thousands higher. Needless to say, I won't buy from a liar. They told me on the phone when I called them that the price was accurate just to get me in there. I left and will never go back.
