Dealership Sales Review
People are always quick to write negative reviews, and I admit to sorting reviews to read the "bad" first when making a purchasing decision for something. But I also weigh the bad against the good. Since I rely on reviews for all kinds of things, I think it's important (perhaps more so) to share positive experiences as well. I had an excellent buying experience with Idris at Napleton's Auto Park in Urbana. Even though I have owned 3 Volkswagens previously, I wanted to be sure there wasn't a different vehicle that would better suit my needs (which was ultimately overruled by my wants, but that's another story... See below :) ). I asked to test drive more than 10 different vehicles at Napleton's, including almost every other make they sell! He was patient and spent a significant amount of time with me to make sure I was given all of the choices/options I was looking (or thought I might be looking) for. Even though he's a VW representative and sales manager, he is knowledgeable about the other makes on Napleton's lots as well. When I had specific questions about another make, he usually had the answer, but would find out the answer if he didn't readily know. He went above and beyond what is probably expected of a stereotypical car salesman, particularly since I did ask to drive about 14 vehicles (no, sadly, I'm not exaggerating!). He is anything but a stereotypical salesman. In the end, I still bought a Volkswagen (2017 Beetle convertible - LOVE it - go talk to him to get your very own :) ). (Balancing want vs. need...) I couldn't be happier with my purchase and my purchase experience with Idris. It took me a couple of weeks to make a final decision. He was never pushy/aggressive and he wasn't out just to make a sale. He wanted me to be sure I was making the right choice for me - not for his paycheck. I highly recommend him (and Napleton's in general). In fact, I recommend him so strongly that I told a complete stranger to contact him when I was talking with them and learned they were new to the area and were in the market for a new car. They went to VW the next day and asked for him - and purchased a car! I had driven through all of the lots at Napelton's for a few weeks, looking at all of the different options. On every lot there was someone who would ask if I needed help. I had already established a working relationship with Idris. Even after letting other salesmen know that, they were all still friendly, answered questions if I had them, and no one was aggressive - even the "used car" salesmen. ;) As a related side note, I have been a Napleton's/O'Brien VW customer for 8+ years. I have always been treated well and fairly by not only the sales department, but service as well. Part of the reason (though perhaps small) I stayed with Volkswagen is because of my satisfaction with the service team.
