Jim Tidwell Ford
Dealership Service Review
First off, don’t buy anything with a 2.0 ecoboost and especially don’t buy it from Jim Tidwell Ford. But if you do buy a 2.0 ecoboost, know that you’re driving a ticking time bomb. Ours wound up with coolant in the combustion chamber, causing a misfire. This problem is so widespread that Ford will replace the motor without any fuss…as long as you’re still under warranty. (Luckily, we were) They’ll then give you a 1 year/10,000 mile warranty on the motor swap. Sounds good, right? While ours was in the shop, one of the CV axles was damaged and had to be replaced as well. JT Ford took care of that too. Still good. Get the car back and 9-10 months into the warranty we notice some noise from the front suspension. This car is a 2016 with 42,000, normally driven miles. We feel it’s reasonable to believe that something may have come loose since the motor swap, especially considering they drop the motor from below (wheels, subframe, transmission, motor) and it’s not typical to have to replace struts. Honestly, I don’t know if I’ve ever had struts replaced on a vehicle. We take it back to JT Ford, they diagnose it as the struts needing replacement for $2300 and they say it has nothing to do with the motor swap so no warranty coverage. Aside from oil changes, the only people under this car and anywhere near the front struts were JT Ford technicians when the wheel assembly/subframe were removed from the rest of the vehicle. To reiterate; they only did right by us on the motor replacement because the problem was so widespread and our original warranty was still in play. After that it was stereotypical dealership behavior of exploiting loopholes and willful ignorance of how the front struts would be involved in swapping out a motor.
