Really Enjoyable Car Buying Experience
Written by winterparker on 12/23/2007

This is a small dealership and has a homey feeling. The sales manager is located right up front where you can see him as you talk to your salesman - no salesman running to another room to get a price from the manager. My salesman and the sales manager were both very pleasant and helpful. I asked for quotes from several dealerships in advance and asked to be contacted by e-mail only. This is the one dealership that honored that request and didn't hound me by telephone. If you do your homework and have your price quotes and TMV price from Edmunds, and know the car and optional equipment you want, you can't go wrong with this dealership. They gave me a very competitive price. They didn't have the car with the options I wanted in stock, but located one and had it ready for me in 1 day. After the purchase I remembered that I wanted rubber mats instead of carpet mats for the interior, and immediately they gave them to me free of charge and let me keep the carpet mats too. Don't get me wrong, like any big ticket item you need to exercise due diligence in making the purchase, even at a good dealership like this. Examples - the manager told me they only made rubber mats for the front floor of the car, but I had the printout from the Hyundai web site that showed the front and rear rubber mats. At that point he called in the back and ordered the rear mats for me and they came in the next day. Since they were giving me these for free, no complaints from me. Also the finance manager was very nice to deal with - pleasant, also no high pressure. But again, exercise due diligence. He explained the maintenance plans to me, and I ended up purchasing one for 5 years routine sceduled maintenance since I bring my car to the dealer religiously anyway every 3000 miles. When quoting the price for these plans he told me $300 something dollars and I assumed that was the cost of the plan. When he gave me the purchase paperwork to sign the plan was $900 something dollars. Turns out the $300 something price he quoted was what my total monthly payment would be with the car payment plus the maintenance plan. Good thing I caught that the price was 3 times what I thought it would be. Still not terrible for all scheduled dealer maintenance for 5 years, but not what I expected. I did tell him all this and he apologized for not making it clear. Lesson I learned - be sure you ask for the total cash price of any optional maintenance plans so you can judge if they're worth it to you. The finance guy also told me that the sales manager forgot to add $80 for a mandatory documentary stamp into the price estimate and that he had to add that. I told him that I would be unhappy if the price of the car was more than what I was quoted and the finance guy immediately said he couldn't do anything about the required stamp, but would lower the car price to compensate. He lowered the car price to more than compensate for the $80 stamp. That did make me happy! So to reiterate - do your homework on price and options, and exercise due diligence with everyone you deal with, and this is a very good dealership. Plus the fact that it is not one of those mega-dealerships was a real plus for me.
