Lia Honda Enfield
Dealership Sales Review
I scheduled an appointment to meet with Lia Honda regarding a vehicle listed on their site as well as third party advertising sites (such as Cars.com) at $34,990. I informed them that I was about an hour out and would see them in about an hour and half. Upon arrival, I was told that I would not be allowed to test drive the vehicle unless I was going to make a deal. That was a bit annoying since I drove an hour to be there and they didn't mention it when I set the appointment. I went on to ask what the total, out the door price would be on the car. My salesman came back with a base price of $42,000 before taxes, and $45,xxx after taxes. I asked why it was $7,000 more than advertised on their site and was informed that there was a roughly $7000 dealer markup fee, and that all dealers did that. I ended the negotiation in anger and walked out with the salesman following me saying "I should have done my research". I have bought a lot of cars in Connecticut, in fact I bought another one that day from another dealer. I have never seen anyone, even in the most backwoods car lots, charge a $7,000 markup over MSRP as a dealer fee. If this isn't a bait-and-switch tactic, it is about as close as it gets.
