Dealership Sales Review

1 out of 5 starssales Rating
Not pleasant
Written by antim on 05/18/2008

The first salesman I talked to was very pleasant. The first manager I talked to was very pleasant. The "deal closer" manager I met next is the reason car dealerships have a bad reputation. He was rude, ill informed and arrogant. I'm quite used to knowing more about a car I'm looking at than the salespeople who are showing it, but this guy knew less about their own financing than I did. Not that I was talking financing, but he was. I had a internet quote when I walked in and the first salesman said he could probably give 120% over blue book on my trade. A good starting point I thought. I was talking price and trade, he would only talk monthly payment. The stupid high monthly payment figures [violative content deleted] had written down would have covered a car costing 6 thousand dollars more than the one I was looking at. That's not salesmanship, that's just insulting. The first salesman was new and had enthusiastically talked about how they seemed to play less games here than at the last dealership he worked. At the negotiating table the poor guy looked decidedly uncomfortable and more than embarrassed by his crass coworker. "This isn't a mass produced car.", says sales [violative content deleted] "Of course it's a mass produced car.", I was pretty sure the vast majority of cars are. "No, it's not a mass produced car.", says he reveling in his own ignorance. "No? Is it handbuilt by elves?", I'm always curious how these things are done. "There's only twelve of these cars in town and I've got six of them." He lied. Not the little white one, the big bald faced kind. "You mean it's not a high volume car. Yeah, I can see how that would tick off the other 8 plus dealerships in the fifth largest city in the US. Lucky you for having the only six Accord V6 coupes for a metropolitan area of over 4 million people.", I'm edging my way to the door now and the first salesman wants to crawl under a table. I sprint to my car with, "best resale value of any car", fading into the distance. I give Bell Honda 1 out of 5 stars, it's got a beat, but you can't drive to it.
