2025 BMW i7 Review
Overview

Based on BMW's full-size luxury sedan, the i7 looks just like a 7 Series, inside and out. If not for the i7 badges and other small details, you might be hard-pressed to tell the difference. Underneath the sheetmetal and cabin, the i7 is something else entirely, equipped with a single-motor rear-wheel drive or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive electric powertrain offering up to 314 miles of range. A technological tour de force, the BMW i7 is swift, silent and decadently sumptuous.
Edmunds spotlight: High-tech highlights
As one of BMW's flagship vehicles, the i7 offers plenty of technology. The features you expect to find in a six-figure luxury sedan are present and accounted for but with special twists. For example, the panoramic sunroof has LED Sky Lounge lighting, and beneath the BMW Curved Display, the dashboard has a touch-sensing strip of illuminated glass. Rear passengers can enjoy the optional 31-inch BMW theater screen boasting 5G connectivity, 8K resolution, and Amazon Fire TV integration. Other upgrades include Highway Assistant for hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph, a Remote Control Parking system that operates through a smartphone app, and an anti-theft recorder that captures video inside and around the car if the alarm triggers.
Competitors to consider
Within the luxury electric vehicle segment, the BMW i7 is one of four sedans offering high-end luxury, performance and prestige. The sturdy i7 looks nothing like its rivals, which include the elegant Lucid Air, curvaceous Mercedes-Benz EQS and timeless Tesla Model S. Each one has its pros and cons, and since we rank specific versions of the BMW, Lucid and Tesla more or less evenly, choosing between them is a matter of personal preference. Be sure to check out our Expert Rating of the BMW i7 to learn more about this electric car.
Which i7 does Edmunds recommend?
Because the thrillingly quick M70 xDrive costs significantly more than its siblings, we recommend the eDrive50 or xDrive60, depending on whether you want all-wheel drive. Several of the M70's features are available on them, and you can add plenty of luxury to either one.

2023 BMW i7 xDrive60 4dr Sedan AWD (electric DD)
Drives really well and cabin is super quiet with very little wheel noise transfer. Cabin has too much led glitz like the Mercedes EQS. LED screen is ok but no comparison in size to Tesla. A larger size screen is really more functional especially for driving directions using Google or Apple Maps.
The built in moonroof is better than having an all glass roof that cannot shield you from … the harsh summer sun in CA, AZ and other hot climate states. Al all glass roof may look cool but it doesn’t help with climate control comfort when you’re driving in the hot sun. Never mind the sun glare that can be an even added irritation. Built in window shades look gimmicky and detract from the design esthetics. The biggest problem is the fact that BMW has chosen to go with a common body design for the gas and EV versions of their Series 7 and 5 models. This means that the rear passenger floor is not flat like in a Tesla Model S. There is this high ridge running down the middle of the rear passenger floor that makes it about impossible to seat a 3rd passenger in the middle of the rear passenger seat. The lack of a frunk to store a spare tire is also a negative with the i7 unlike my Tesla Model S. Bottom line is that it’s more comfortable than a Model S, especially if you get the front seat massaging option and if your in the right age demographic, its drives and handles better than most boat-like big luxury cars.

2024 BMW i7 xDrive60 4dr Sedan AWD (electric DD)
I had a 2020 Tesla X Long Range for four years. I ordered a new X Plaid but the delivery was pushed back three times so so started looking for something else. I drove everything from the Lucid, to the Rivian, to the EQS…the i7 XDrive60 is a tech forward, fast, comfortable sedan that is the first EV other than a Tesla that felt was worthy. It is rated at 308 miles but I’ve observed range … that is remarkably better than my previous Tesla. I have free charging on Electrify América for three years and so gm far have had no issues at all. Once you learn the tech, it is intuitive and easy to use. The car has a road presence that I last experienced the first year owning my Tesla X. The automatic doors, voice commands, silky speed, and comfortable seats, make this car a dream to own.

I like everything about this car: how it looks- a real beauty!!! the details- esp the crystals everywhere in the car, and of course the performance. The car gets praises everywhere I go.
I’ve had so many BMW cars since 1999, but this is the ultimate BMW car for me!
