Hi all, I'm a new kid on the block, Just joined today............. What I would like to know is if any you guys out there be so kind as to give me some advice about my 1995 GMC Safari? I found her running very bad with regards power, she would take off ok but after she change into top gear she seems to lack in power, and also I have notice ... Read More
. Early 95 model and older of Astro/Safari vans had single fiberglass leaf system. Mid 1995 and newer years (like my 2001 van), their factory build was 3 leaf steel spring system. For early 1995 and older leaf spring conversion kits, surf: http://www.stengelbros.com/SteelReplacementSprings.htm For 1999 AWD, one can install +1 leaf (mid length leaf) in the rear. This firms up the rear's suspension but it also lifts the van's rear 1.5". ... Read More
Not sure, but I have seen the computer,cause a "N0 Spark"!">
Thanks, I found that the problem was an internal short in the stock radio. I replaced the radio and haven't had the problem since.
My 2000 GMC Safari had the same problem, The dealer replaced the Crank Sensor and found wires in the bundle that had heated up and fused themselves together. However, after over $1500 in money paid to the dealer, when they restored the spark, they found that that the Autozone Spark plug wires, when sprayed with a water mist while the motor was running, lit up like a christmas tree. They replaced ... Read More
Thanks for your concern.... For your records, there's a known problem with the ABS system on the Astro/Safari vans. There's an official TSB but NO recall. Still amazes me why no formal recall. For details.... Bottom line is... Defector sensor (which needs to be replaced) or the existing sensor is too "rusted up" to work properly... ----------------- .... Basically, dirty sensor mounting surfaces cause the signal to drop out at low ... Read More
Does anyone have a list of the GMC Safari Codes Especially for code "12" for a 1995 GMC Safari Van
Hello, we have a 1995 GMC Safari that isn't getting any spark. The ignition module checked good, and we replaced the pickup coil. and still we can't get any spark? If anyone has had this same problem, and knows what the problem is, or has any suggestions, please email me. Thanks, Jim.
Hello Vernon...I had a 1995 Safari, the EGR Valve and the Radiator gave me problems. I had the radiator repaired, but couldn't afford the EGR valve, so I was told to have the engine cleaned, which I did. After that, it began to blow white smoke, but a friend at work, who also owned a 1995, told me to invest in a tank of High Test gas, to clean the engine ... Read More

I have a 1996 AWD Safari. The battery in it started draining over night. I had the battery and the charging system checked. I inspected every part of the wiring harness I could see without tearing the van apart. I checked for shorts in the fuse box with my volt meter and found one somewhere in the interior lights. They all work, so I was stumped. So I installed a battery ... Read More
Normally, the clock should continue to run, but the display should go dark when the key is removed from the cylinder. 250 ma, or .25 amps is excessive, regardless of the vehicle in question. This can drain the battery, and can permanently damage the battery. Try disconnecting the fuses for the clock and the radio, and check for the drain again. It is possible that there is a connection problem on ... Read More
Hello all, I was wondering if any of you guys knew whether the radio clock in a 1995 Safari should remain on even when the van is off. I don't remember it staying on before. Basically I have to jump my van off every two days because after sitting up for a couple of days, the battery is totally dead. Now the radio clock only draws .25amps, that shouldn't kill a ... Symptom = rough ide in park, terrible idle in gear. Very good engine performance as soon as it builds to about 2K RPM. Oil Pressure at idle is 30, 60 at 2K RPM. Only Code 12 (of course) and 83 is thrown. Would the bad TTC PWM Solenoid make the van run rough, or is their no relation between a bad idle and this solenoid?? Thanks, James
I have been chasing codes and repairing the components that would trigger a code. The only code (other that 12) left is... Problem: Code 83 - TCC PWN Solenoid Circuit Fault Rough idle in neutral, almost dies when put into gear. Excessive vibration There is no terminal F wire present at the ALDL so I couldn't check for voltage there. I checked the fuse for "Gages" and I see voltage across ... Read More
You might want to look at a Chilton's manual. I know they made them up in til 1997. I've got an AWD 2000 Astro. No books written. Problem I fixed today was thanks to this site. This probably applies to Astros and a few other Chevys... From 1992 to 1994 GMC Safaris were available with L35 engines that produced 200 HP @ 4400 rpm. These so-called "W" series engines were marketed as "Enhanced" or "High Output" V6s and used central port electronic injection for fuel delivery. All were catagorized as "Vortec" V6s. From 1995 to date the SAE Net HP rating was reduced to 190 HP @ ... Read More
Does anyone know how to add in pricing for a conversion package when figuring out the price on your conversion van????? Kelley Blue Book doesn't seem to have an option for this. I have a 1995 GMC Safari Autoform conversion from Glaval Corporation (No extended roof). Your help is greatly appreciated. Bill Rains
