2013 Dodge Dart: Shifter Noise

July 16, 2013

2013 Dodge Dart

I spent some time in our 2013 Dodge Dart recently. One thing stuck out as a bit annoying to me. The shifter.

In order to shift the car from park, the button on the shifter must be pressed. No big news there. But the click made when park disengages is quite loud. The noise may not have found a way under my skin if I hadn't been in a situation where I was shifting in and out of park frequently. But I was. And it did. Now I hear it every time.

If that annoys you then I hope your analyst is on danger money.

Come on that is too loud, simple.

Ick. The release mechanism in our Accord makes no noise at all. That just sounds cheap to me.

True, I haven't driven a car that has a button release (rather than stagger gated) shifter like that in a while, but I remember them sounding like that. Maybe newer ones tend to be quieter.

  • I had a car that had a very loud brake interlock control that sounded the same way. But now I can't remember which car that was! (Oh, and it didn't bother me AT ALL.)

I am sure if I stick my ear down there as close as the microphone is on that phone it would be quite annoying, but I don't plan on doing that.

FWIW, my new Dart GT doesn't make this sound at all....
