how can I replace the instrument panel, all my gauges are out.
I would definitely go for one with side airbags, if not side-curtain airbags. The Honda Odyssey, beginning with the 2002 model year, had standard side airbags but not the curtains. (one major reason I bought the 2002 versus the 2001) The curtain airbags were standard in all Odysseys starting with the redesigned 2005 models. The Sienna I am not so sure but I'm pretty sure that side curtain airbags were available ... Read More
Sounds good to me. 124,000 miles on the vehicle. Thanks for the advice.
Certainly a tuneup including plugs and wires is in order. I'd check the cap and rotor as well. However, you didn't say what the mileage is on the van but I'd vote for replacing the oxygen sensor.
Bought it 2 years ago but never tuned it up. I have only put maybe 2000 miles on it since I purchased it. Do not know if previous owner had tuned it up before selling it to me.
Well, how long has it been since you had the van tuned up?
Hello, my 1993 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl. has gone from 15mpg to 10 mpg. I am not using the A/C. Could it be that all I need is a tune up? Thanks.
had a 1993 Eagle Vision, the sister to the Intrepid. We kepted it until 2004 when we bought our Civic. The a/c went out in 2004, we replaced the rubber motor mounts in 2001. The clock spring in 2003. Those were the only things that went wrong in 11 years of owning that car. We are going on 16 months with our 2005 Dodge GC, and so far, have did nothing ... Read More
The Intrepid came out in 1992 as a 1993 model. I had a '93 Intrepid bought back by Chrysler under owner's arbitration. It led to a worst '94 Dodge GC and the last product I'll ever buy from that company. The Caravan has been around since 1984, not 2001. I had a 1993 Eagle Vision, the sister to the Intrepid. We kept it until 2004 when we bought our Civic. The ... Read More

Just for the record, the worst minivan I owned (out of the 7) was a 1983 VW Vanagon 9 passenger GL. Talk about a dud! Still, we loved that unsafe van. We bought the 1994 Grand Caravan because I was able to special order it with ABS plus '94 was the first year for dual frontal airbags. Third worse car. The '93 Intrepid I exchanged under owner arbitration for the GC ... Read More
I don't know the recent failure per vehicle from trannies on Honda or DCX. But you seem too, it someone says they had trany problems then maybe they did. Let's correct the record here....I'm not the one counting tranny repairs at a DCX dealer, then proclaiming the problems have continued since 1993. That distinction goes to who started this negative DCX bashing thread, NOT ME. I have never made a claim ... Read More
Okay.. thats it folks.. the end of round one. Of the three judges it appears that all three score cards are scoring one for scocalawd, one for dennisctc and one for the PSU cheerleader guy with the pom, pons and skirt. :) Looks like extra rounds are needed to decide this one. Here's my 2 cents about Dodge vs. Honda's and it has nothing to do with vans. I've owned a ... Read More
Do you really think a Odyssey owner would rate his or her van lower after having paid a premium price for it over DCX vans. Socalwad excepted because he's convinced he got the best price on his first Odyssey after buying 3 or 4? DCX vans. I have only purchased 1 Dodge caravan(2001) I did it purely for the price, had 2 as company cars(1990,1993), and one given to me (1986) ... Read More
I am going to award that title to myself. Since 1983 I have owned: 1983 VW 9-passenger (very rare) Vanagon 1987 Nissan Van 1990 Pontiac Trans Sport 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan 1997 Ford Windstar 2003 Olds Silhouette 2006 Honda Odyssey EX-L In between there were a some sedans, all Detroit iron. My experience with the vans was that the VW was far and away the most roomy and comfortable but the ... Read More
I would think you would still have a warrantee on that transmission if it was done by the dealer. For those of you that have your van cutting in and out or the engine quitting and restarting later. I had a 1993 Eagle Vision that did that. At first the dealer couldn't find anything wrong. When it got worse, it turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. I believe that was ... Read More
I have a 1993 dodge caravan 3 speed auto. It stays in first gear until 30 mph shifts smooth then stays in second gear till 52 mph before going into third smooth. De-acceleration is the same into second at 52 then first at 30. Any ideas as to what a solution or fix might be? Thanks!
I called my brother just a few minutes ago and asked him about his minivan. I was wrong in it being a Dodge, it's a Plymouth Caravan. A 1993, with 128,000 miles on it. He said outside of normal servicing, he replaced the freeze plugs on the engine last year and replaced brakes and rotors about two and a half years ago. It's a 3.3, which I drove once and it ... Not too long ago I test drove a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT back to back with a 2005 Odyssey LX and Honda really is much nicer. Plus, as he said, the Honda was marked down $2000 off MSRP. Plus, I am not a Honda person saying this. I had a 1993 Dodge, a 2001 Chrysler and currently have a 2003 Chrysler. The 2005 Dodge could not match the ride found ... Read More
My 2003 Chrysler Voyager LX is still as smooth and quiet as they day I bought it (knock wood). I have absolutely no complaints with the van and am making no plans to replace it. It's my third DC van after a 1993 Dodge Caravan SE and a 2001 Chrysler Voyager (base model). Very pleased. BTW, hansiena, FWIW, I have only been in a couple of Sedonas, but I would say ... Read More
Only one DC minivan has had transmission failure of the many owned by people I know. That was a 1996 T&C LXi used to tow a large trailer all the time and the transmission failed at 180,000 miles. Meanwhile, 3 sisters in a family I know had purchased Ford Taurus. The 1990 Taurus transmission failed at just over 100,000 miles, the 1993 Taurus transmission failed at 115,000 miles and most recently ... Read More
Have not read all 15 pages of posts--only about every third page or so. I have noticed, however, one piece of pretty interesting information. The vast majority of the problems are for 1996 to 1998 vans. One guy about 10 posts ago bought a used and badly abused 2002 T&C (as evidenced by the 35k mi in less than a year!) and is having problems, just about every one else has ... Read More
To the person who quoted CR giving the Chrysler. minivans a thumb up, that is no longer the case. They no longer recommend them because the quality has slipped. I too owned a 1994 Dodge Grand Caravan. The van was an exchange for a 1993 lemon Dodge Intrepid bought back under the Customer Arbitration Program. The van was almost as bad as the Intrepid. Two transmissions, a/c compressor replaced twice and ... Read More
Edmunds TMV puts the value of a 1995 Dodge Caravan at about $4200 private party and $5200 at a dealer. The mileage sounds a little on the high side maybe? You left out a few variables, though--Grand? Model? Options? Based on the info given, you might offer closer to $4000-$4200 and see what happens. One thing to look out for. I had a 1993 Caravan SE and it had a bad ... Read More
I must be lucky we own a 1993 GC with 200,000 km with the ogrinal tranny. The scret regular oil changes every 5ooo km and change the tranny oil and filter every year ( about 30,000km). But watch out for the rear wiper motor replaced twice which means cutting off the wiper arm too, so $150 motor plus $20 wiper arm. also the front tie rods repaira are a killer.
